Editorial Reviews

"In a culture where it's assumed that a full calendar equals a full life and pragmatism has become the order of the day, Rob Rienow offers a radically counter-culture alternative: the limitless kingdom of God experienced in the context of a focused church that's been freed to be what Jesus formed the church to be. Excellent studies that move beyond the hype to get at what really matters in the field of family ministry."
Timothy Paul Jones, Ph.D.,
Professor at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY

"Rob Rienow calls the Christ-follower, the family, and the church to wrestle with a magnificently ignored doctrine in western Christianity--the sufficiency of Scripture for every area of life. This is a timely work that every pastor, church leader, husband, wife, parent, grandparent, and Christian should read. I think this book is one more step forward in a movement of Christ-centered churches and homes across our land committed to propagating the globe and the generations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
Brian Haynes, Lead Pastor Bay Area First Baptist Church, and author of Shift

"As a parent and a pastor, this book was a welcomed reminder that disciple making begins in the home."
Kelly Brady, Pastor of Glen Ellyn Baptist Church, Glen Ellyn, IL

"Rob Rienow has helped us to articulate and clarify the church's role and the centrality of the family for advancing the Gospel. The stakes we are putting in the ground as a family ministry stand firmer as we seek to follow God's plan for our church."
Michael Warren, Family Pastor, ChangePoint Church, Anchorage, AK

Limited Church: Unlimited Kingdom by Rob Rienow should be mandatory reading for every pastor and seminary student. Carefully laying a foundation of the sufficiency of Scripture, Rienow prepares the reader to build a church vision that will stand the test of trouble. The Lord promised us that what we build will be tested by the storms; this book gives the key to a structure that will endure.

As we remove the blinders of expediency and pragmatism, and simply read God's Word for truth, our churches will change and become more effective. The author's consistent message is to take our efforts, vision, designs, dreams, organizations, and plans back to the Scriptures. We are challenged to test what we believe, what we practice and what we think by the unchanging Word of God. If what we are doing or thinking is not confirmed by Scripture, stop doing it. What a novel approach!

Well written and easy to understand yet deeply challenging, Limited Church: Unlimited Kingdom is a complete guide to not only the restoration of the Church, but also explains how to redeem the family. Both of these primary God-given institutions are in deep trouble. There is a connection that is being overlooked and Rienow explains this in the section covering Jurisdictions. Rarely taught, but sorely needed in our pulpits.

From first to last this book is about discipleship. Our Lord gave us the Great Commission and He intended for us to obey Him. Many pastors desire to fulfill this commandment, but our methods are often filled with human wisdom instead of following the biblical model. Perhaps that is why the Church and family are struggling so much in our day - our methods do not follow the Master's plan. After reading this book, every pastor and church leader should go to their room, shut the door, and find out what the Master said.

I readily and wholeheartedly endorse this book and will recommend it to every pastor and father I know.

I've always respected Dr. Rienow's work and have read and listed to many of his articles, seminars and books such as visionary parenting. Very few Christian writers are so open about their own passion for leading their family. It seems that all of Rob's work begins at home, with his own wife and children. There is little fluff and theory in his writing, most of it is intensely practical and born of actual parenting wins and losses.

Limited Church Unlimited Kingdom follows suit, but takes a step back to look at 2 key doctrines that are rarely, if at all connected to the area of family ministry in the American church today; 1. The sufficiency of scripture and 2. The doctrine of jurisdiction. Rob gives 6 chapters of this book to those two subjects, laying the theological foundation for his ideas on the roles of the church and family. I grew up in the church, graduated from Bible school and have been in ministry for years, but have been challenged as a pastor and as a father by both of these doctrines.

I believe this is one of the most important works on family ministry, parenting and church leadership since "Think Orange" by Reggie Joiner. Anyone who is serious about understanding and obeying God's Word should read it.

One of the hottest topics in churches today is the idea of family ministry. The resources are increasing in number as are the approaches and, thereby, the frustration. You may wonder, "Can't there just be one simple way to address the topic instead of having to pick and choose from so many options?" The answer according to Rob Rienow: There is! In fact, Dr. Rienow clearly believes that the most important book on the topic of family ministry is most likely already in your possession. It's called the Bible.

Rob Rienow's desire is to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. In Limited Church: Unlimited Kingdom, he provides a helpful guide to come alongside your study of Scripture and call us back to the hard question - "Is the Bible sufficient for every matter of faith and life?" Over and over again we are faced with the truth that not only has God given us His Word to show us "what" He wants but also "how" He wants it done.

Rienow suggests that a missing piece of biblical teaching today is the theology of jurisdiction. God has laid the framework for the "what" and "how" of biblical living within four spheres: the individual, the family, the local church, and the government. Dr. Rienow does an excellent job laying out the jurisdictional issues that exist in church and society as well as a path toward biblical living. He focuses on the local church and the family while covering each sphere based upon the sufficiency of Scripture and repeating the framework God has given each one according to His Word.

An individual committed to loving God and others advances God's mission through a godly marriage, godly children, a godly local church, and to the end of the earth.

Is the local church doing too little? Or perhaps too much? What should it be focused on? And what is the role of the family and the individual Christian? Rob's book is a clear call to build our lives, our homes, and our churches on the Bible by reclaiming the sufficiency of Scripture. Nothing has shaped my life and ministry more than this essential doctrine. It has changed how I think about the way we "do church" and the essential role of the family in advancing the gospel. It will challenge, encourage, and equip you for faithful, focused ministry in any context!
