5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound, June 23, 2008
This review is from: Limits Of The Sky (Audio CD)
I purchased this album solely because Matthew Sweet is the producer. The production values are amazing; the sound is similar to Matthew Sweet's In Reverse album. The melodies are pure power pop. The musicians are good (bassist is probably the best of them) but don't do anything new. Listen to this on a good sound system and you can't fail to be entertained.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 Byrds and a Painter, 8 miles high . . ., July 10, 2008

Except for lead singer Brittany Painter, these five could have gone out legally as The Byrds, since siblings Natalie, Stacey, Isaaca, and Jeremy are so surnamed. The namesake would not have been a mistake, either, as these musicians layer harmonies like they're eight miles high and forty years old. But they're half that age, straight as arrows, mostly play their own instruments (Matthew Sweet is a noted guest), and can hold their own against any mop-top pop pies with choirboy voices. Granted, lyrically their hearts are on their sleeves, nay, their wrists - no Joni Mitchell wannabes here - but, hey, they're still young. Listen to "Pieces" and "One Way," and understand that with a bit more instrumental punch and a few more years' life experience, The Bridges could be the next Bangles. Will they find the necessary wizening? I remain convinced they'll cross that bridge. ****

Just wanted to say that love the vocals of this group. Lead sounds much older than she is. Great voice and overall great CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!, November 26, 2008
This review is from: Limits Of The Sky (Audio CD)
"Pieces" JUMPED off a recent Paste Sampler CD. Just watched the video on YouTube. What a great song -- can't wait to hear the album. The song actually has a melody (!) and great instrumentation. And the four-part chorus on "Pieces" is arrestingly beautiful. Hope I can catch them live!

I first heard this band as the opening act for Matthew Sweet - the sound was pretty bad at the venue, but I checked out their myspace site, then bought this CD. Well worth a listen to if you like a light pop-rock sound and well-blended 4-part harmonies.

Incredibly refreshing!!!

I felt like I did when I heard Fleetwood Mac for the first time. It was like listening to my life story in song.

I really do love listening to this CD! It stays in my car all the time. I never get tired of listening to it. The Bridges have a unique sound and melody, and their music is soothing but not boring. I definitely recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Different, August 19, 2008

Something about the songwriting of The Bridges is very unique. Never before have I heard songs so packed with singing. It seems there's not even room for any or many instrumental solos. And the lines of imaginative melody seem to take unexpected twists and turns--avoiding the standard verse/chorus/bridge structure. I keep thinking, "How can they memorize these songs in order to perform them live?" Very exciting, highly original, bright and optimistic music. Mature and interesting lead vocals (for one so young), plus heavenly harmonies. A band to watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't cross The Bridges, August 8, 2008

This is a contagious album. I've woken up several mornings with Track 2 going through my head. Matthew Sweet did a great job recording/producing it. If you like The Cranberries/The Sundays/Matthew Sweet/The Vines -- you'll love this album. It's laid-back but energetic. The harmonies are rich and it has a tasteful Country/Folk Rock infusion in the tunes -- like some of Matthew Sweet's music. It's worth every penny. :)

This is a wonderful CD by some very talented people. Heard it first on iTunes but came to Amazon for the download since they don't have limits on the number of copies I can make. iTunes has an extra song. Anyway, they are definitely worth the download and at $7.99 for the album, it's a steal. Keep it up Bridges. You're going places, no pun intended.
