Book Description

Intended for junior/senior level students in biology and environmental sciences, this best-selling study of lake systems covers the physics, chemistry, and biology of lakes. The text includes ecosystem examples to illustrate basic concepts in limnology. The examples are drawn from all over the world-Africa, the Americas, Antarctica, the Arctic, Europe, Japan, and New Zealand. The authors are selective in presentation and coverage of topics, making the text perfectly suited for a one-semester introduction to this science.

4.0 out of 5 stars An easy to follow, but very informative book for all levels., November 6, 1999

This review is from: Limnology (Hardcover)
This book covers the main issues of Limnology, and compiles them into an easy to read, well descriptive text. Also includes good diagrams for the more complicated aspects. Suitable for those with a fair knowledge of Biology and Chemistry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook for those interested in lakes and streams, September 27, 1999
This review is from: Limnology (Hardcover)
I enjoyed this textbook. Unlike most texts it was engaging AND informative. The text and diagrams are well integrated and a number of important concepts are covered well. This text could be improved by adding additional color photographs.

This review is from: Limnology (Hardcover)
I am taking an undergraduate limnology class for a university in the fisheries department and this text was on a list of recommended (but not required) texts to obtain.

While the publication date of the book may seem old, do not let that fool you into thinking that the material in the book is out of date. The basic, fundamentals for limnology still hold true to this day (as it should!) and the readings are clear and concise.

There are a few color photos in the book, graphs and the reading is just about right (i.e. it will NOT take you hours to plow through one chapter like it can in some other higher level science classes!).

I recommend this book for people who are interested in limnology as it is a fascinating subject and you won't ever really see lakes and rivers the same again. It is also a great text for students in an introductory limnology class or as a supplemental text for lectures.
