Sloppy Discographical work casts shadow on book,

This review is from: Lina Cavalieri: The Life of Opera's Greatest Beauty, 1874-1944 (Paperback)
I haven't had time to more than scan thru the book at this point, but I feel I should warn prospective buyers that it is not quite up to snuff in some important aspects (2, at least).
1) the filmography lists only 9 titles, and without explanation. Other sources over the years have listed 14, or as few as 4. With such variance, there should have been some reference to the lack of concrete evidence to show that research was adequately carried out. 2) The discography is pathetic! No complete listing of the various issue numbers for Columbia, and only one double-side disc listed for Pathe -- even though the 1964 first edition of Girard & Barnes VERTICAL-CUT CYLINDERS AND DISCS lists 9 titles and gives the year, 1918. Perhaps an enjoyable book, but obviously not definitive...Lina Cavalieri: The Life of Opera's Greatest Beauty, 1874-1944 |
