Overall, this is a beautifully made set with plenty of replay value for the little ones.

They're still a quality toy: little pieces of wood, precision cut with notches and finished just well enough to avoid splinters.

I like that Lincoln Logs allow the kind of creative play that I think is so important for children.

This set is a must-have! There are actually enough pieces to get creative.

Pieces include
205 #1 (1.5 inches long)
57 #3 (4.5 inches long)
22 #4 (7.5 inches long)
10 #5 (4.5 inches long) (half log)
11 #8 (7.5 inches long) (half log)
4 #5 green roof slats (4.5 inches long) (half log)
18 #8 green slats (7.5 inches long) (half log)
2 #5 green slats (these connect to the eves to hold the green roof half logs in place)
4 #8 green slats (these connect to the eves to hold the green roof half logs in place)
6 red wood roof eaves
1 red wood chimney
1 frontiersman
2 horses
1 covered wagon

We have had the Double T Ranch (125 pieces) for a couple of years. It never got much play because there were never enough larger pieces for my kids now 8, 5 and 3 to build with considering their limited skills. Also they fought over the few larger pieces.

P.S.
The knex website has building plans for a lot of other sets they sell...so you could print these out to help spark your imagination.

I'm sure there are those who will say I've entered my dotage and that Lincoln Logs, like Charles Foster Kane's Rosebud, are a sub-conscious cry for a lost and long-ago childhood.

Well, they'd be partially correct: I spent a million never-to-be recovered hours playing with Lincoln Logs long ago when the alternatives were wooden blocks. And then I repeated the experience on a smaller scale with my son. And not too long ago with my grandchildren!

As a child, I faced the eternal dilemma of not enough Lincoln Log pieces. Not with this set: well over 300 pieces (and some plastic kitsch as well).

I love construction toys and tools. I missed Lego: the plastic Lego block wasn't invented until I was well into my teens and still hadn't really caught on in the US when my son was the right age. Now I satisfy my Lego (and related Girder & Panel) urges with design software. But as I do with Lego, there's still a lot of fun to be had with creating things to use in stop-motion animation. The Lego minifigs are a bit out of scale for Lincoln Logs for animation, but so what?

This set has it all, though only one red dyed wooden chimney seems a bit parsimonious.

They're still a quality toy: little pieces of wood, precision cut with notches and finished just well enough to avoid splinters. Stick a little chewing gum between the logs and your structure would probably be waterproof. One of the best parts of Lincoln Logs, as with Lego, is that when you're done, it's great fun to destroy your structure!

The container is very durable and should last well into the next generation or two of children who, one way or another, inherit this wonderful set. It's a sin, I think, to call it a "toy". Like Lego, Lincoln Logs are a world of their own.

My almost-5-year-old son had played with Lincoln Logs before, so we had some inking that he enjoyed them... but the set he'd been playing with at Grandma's house was only about 70 pieces, so there simply wasn't that much he could build. This set has 330+ pieces! The tub is so huge that my kid almost fits inside it! I'm not normally a "bigger = better" kind of person, but the sheer volume of logs in this set makes it so that my son can really branch out from the suggested structures and let his imagination fly...

The sheer variety of the pieces has really allowed my son to go places that the smaller sets don't. There have been airplane hangers, frontier forts, meteor-powered trucks (!?), and so much more. We've had these for two weeks, and every... single... day he sits down to play with them... sometimes for an hour or more! Any parent of a small child can tell you that self-directed play can be a magical and elusive creature, but Lincoln Logs totally make that magic happen.

I will say that I knocked a star off because some of the pieces just don't fit together as they should -- for instance, one roof brace fits loosely in the logs, while another one is too large. The wood is quality, but the cutting just isn't always perfect. Then again, we're talking two pieces out of almost 350, so the value is still definitely there. I'm also kinda "meh" on the plastic pieces (the little frontiersman and his horses), but they're not low quality for what they are. It's just that after you get into the groove with logs, who wants to mess around with plastic?

Lincoln Logs have been around forever, but and I gotta say that with a set like this, they'll be around for a LONG time in our house. Other than the couple of pieces that are miscut, the quality of this set feels high enough that it might be something we keep around the grandkids after our son grows out of them...

5 year little boy getting ready to go back to school - physically jumping up and down delight at how many pieces he now has (previous set just didn't have enough to get creative as he got older)

30 year old Mom being restrained by 5 year old to let him play with them first - LOL

53 year old, as she watches them play, thinking back to her set back in 1966 - PRICELESS

Family played with the set off and on all day - silliness and creativity unlimited. Tomorrow little one's best friend coming over for a playdate. Looking forward to taking pictures of what they come up with to build.

*only disappointment was seeing the made in China label*

FYI we started off age 3 with the 84 piece (now well loved) set: Lincoln Logs Classic Edition Tin
