From Library Journal
Fehrenbacher's worthwhile writings cover many subjects, including Lincoln and race, the election of 1860, executive power, patronage, Reconstruction, Lincoln's death, Lincoln in fiction, recent historiography, and a description of an episode from the 1920s about forged Lincoln documents. This excellent collection surveys the work of an important historian and conveniently gathers essays from a variety of sources, such as journals and edited books, which some libraries will not have. Although all but one of these essays were previously published (between 1953 and 1986), Fehrenbacher has revised them for inclusion in this volume. Highly recommended for college and university libraries, as well as for large public libraries. Joseph G. Dawson III, History Dept., Texas A&M Univ., College Station
