5.0 out of 5 stars ...unbelievable..., June 10, 1999

This review is from: Linda Dunn (Audio CD)
if any artist deserved a thousand stars, it's linda dunn. her self-titled debut is an example of intelligent writing and a voice that has been saving up "something to say". with a top-notch list of musicians by her side, including nils lofgren and the brilliant jon carroll, ms.dunn has given "pholk" it's maturity and it's strength on tracks like "stand down", bastard amber", "guardian angel", "in the chelsea", "sorry for the rain", and...hell, every other track on this tremendous album. this lady is just magnificent and this cd is a true successor to everything that joan baez has passed all the way down to mary chapin carpenter. do not pass this one up....

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding First Record, May 24, 1999
By
This review is from: Linda Dunn (Audio CD)
Linda Dunn writes intelligent, literate, sassy and playful songs...that's what John McCutcheon says of her...and I couldn't agree more. The music on this album is soft melodic to raucus bluesy with a bit of pop and country thrown in for good measure. Her lyrics are the kind that grab you around the throat and make you think, sometimes the grip is loving and gentle other times fierce and fighting for your attention and sometimes it is just a playful touch to make sure you're paying attention. The songs on this album will be heard, whether sung by Linda Dunn or some "big name" star they will be heard, they are that good. The muscianship is excellent with strong supporting players like Nils Lofgren, J.T. Browne and Robert Horne. If she comes to your town go listen and buy this CD I guarantee you won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars This CD will satisfy all your musical desires - AWESOME, May 21, 1999

Linda Dunn offers a feast for the senses. Her voice, styling and lyrics all weave together to form an enchanting ethereal experience. Her music is intellegent and poignant - sassy and fun. It is impossible to categorize her style because it , like a fine work of art , has no bounds. It is folk, rock, new country, celtic,pop...everything you could want in a musical experience - (except maybe polka) The only reason I didnt rate it all 5 stars is because it looked pretentious - ENJOY !!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Find and a Half, October 19, 2006
This review is from: Linda Dunn (Audio CD)
I bought a CD player from a thrift store, and when I got home found Linda Dunn in it. No sleeve, no introduction, no kidding. What a treat! Inteligent lyrics, vocals with an edge of personality, and top production with seasoned studio talents. My favorite tracks include thoughtful, "Sorry for the Rain" and rousing "Stand Down," with a great mix of fun and attitude throughout.

I actually don't own this album in particular, but do have two previous independant albums of Ms. Dunn's which songs are included on this one. I have seen her perform in Beuafort, NC and was actually a student of hers for two semesters in college,so you can take it from me: This is one talented lady! I particularly enjoy the songs "Guardian Angel" and "This Time Tomorrow" and highly recommend buying this album and also going to see her perform live!

This is one of those CDs that you don't take out of your player for a week because you want to learn every song, get down with Ms. Dunn and sing along. Great music and I believe every note and word she sings.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a good CD, I'd buy it again!, May 28, 1999

Having had the good fortune to see Ms Dunn perform the selections from this CD live, I urge you to take any opportunity to do so yourself. In the meantime, buy the CD. From the haunting lyrics of "In the Chelsea" to the saucy "Be Somewhere Else", Ms Dunn takes the listener through the gamete of emotions and back again. To quote another fan, "If you like music at all, there is something on there for you". Go ahead and get a copy for your friends now, because you won't be getting it back when they 'borrow' it.
