5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent cookbook to own!
I am a vegan, and finding anything delicious that doesn't include some form of tofu is sometimes hard. This cookbook includes many ethnic, vegan recipes and photos to go with them. Instructions are easy, even my 9-year-old daughter helps with the preparation. We made the Chinese aromatic vegetable stir-fry last night, and it was marvelous. Even my mom, who is not...

3.0 out of 5 stars Wide range of cultures, so-so ingredients
Overall, this is a great starter book for someone being introduced to vegetarianism, since many of the dishes are just vegetarian versions of wellknown meaty dishes. However, Ms. McCartney relies a little too heavily on meat substitutes in her recipes. For example, she uses vegetarian sausages and vegetarian ground "meat" in many of the recipes. I would recommend...

5.0 out of 5 stars A great addition to any cookbook collection, April 14, 1999
By A Customer
Linda's recipes are unique in that they are obviously tested and tested again. I am not a great cook (average to good maybe) and I have had many failures in the kitchen by following poor recipes... having cooked a good many of Linda's recipes I haven't had one failure. This food is great!!! Flavorful, easy to make recipes take the anxiety out of preparing a great meal. Also, I recommend this for meat eaters, not just vegetarians, you'll be pleasently surprised. This book (as well as her others) has taught me so many new cooking techniques and educated me on the use of vegetables and everyday herbs and spices. It's too bad she isn't around to do more. I miss her for her cookbooks alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Multi-Ethnic Cookbook - Absolutely Fabulous!, April 14, 1999
By A Customer
Yet another truly excellent cooking tome from an inspiring woman, Linda McCartney shows once again how easy it is to prepare easy and delicious meals with a flair. This book is a must have for those who like to sample cuisines from other cultures, and you absolutely don't miss the meat in these dishes. From the stunning photography to the mouth-watering menu ideas that make party planning a snap, there is something for every taste. I have had rave reviews over every recipe I prepared from this and her other cook books. We have lost a true treasure in Linda McCartney.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent tasty and unique veggie cuisine, November 16, 2002

I received this book as a gift and after looking through it, I was excited to try the recipes. There is a great selection of different recipes from all around the world. What makes this book special is that the recipes include the traditional Italian and Chinese cuisine, but Linda goes beyond the traditional to include Indian, African and Thai cuisines. I truly enjoy the hot and sour soup, for example. The photographs are brilliant in color and are vivid enough to make your stomach growl by just looking at them. Linda uses olive oil generously. Although there is not a nutritional analysis, it is easy to adapt the recipes to a healthy diet, which I do with great success. I truly enjoy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars More interesting than most vegetarian cookbooks, October 24, 1998
By A Customer
I'm not a vegetarian, but did find some good recipes in this book. For once, a cookbook isn't dessert heavy. There is a good mixture of main meals, side dishes, and sandwiches, as well as sauces. An introductory section gives suggestions for stocking a vegetarian pantry. There's also a brief overview of nutritional needs. Since these recipes are from around the world, the variety is refreshing and different. My only caveat is that I expected more recipes for the price. The books has about 200 for the price of [$]. I don't know if we're paying for the glossy paper, the beautiful colored pictures, or Linda's name.

Through all she was going through, Linda managed to pull off another great cookbook. This book has a variety of delicious dishes from all around the world and contains everything a vegetarian cookbook should; from vegetarian questions and answers to holiday menus. It's a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Around the World in 200 Recipes, November 14, 2007
By
"Linda McCartney on Tour" had me from hello. When I first saw it at my college bookstore in Santa Fe, I often perused its pages with its delicious recipes and vibrant pictures. Finally, I received it as a Christmas present. It has served its purpose well. The Chinese aromatic vegetable stir-fry is wonderfully simple, perfect those days when all I've got are veggies and spices. The Thai sweet&sour cucumber salad was a hit at a Buddhist potluck. The African vegetable soup with coconut is deliciously exotic, as is the Tanzanian banana and yam stew.

The late, great Linda McCartney offers accessible, simple and delicious recipes that put Rachael Ray's 30 Minute Meals to shame. She respects her readers; one doesn't need to cut a deal with Starbucks or have rock star riches to make these recipes. Going beyond the usual Chinese/Indian/Thai vegetarian cuisines, she also has African and Caribbean cuisine.

"Linda McCartney On Tour" cooks up perfect meals! It's an essential for any kitchen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comfy vegan options, August 25, 2010

(VINE VOICE)    (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
In this release, McCartney branched out from the homey comforts of Europe and the Americas into more international, varied and vegan-friendly cuisine. Not all of it is vegan, but she supplied plenty of recipes where you could go in either direction.

Although McCartney was married to one of the wealthiest men on the planet, her recipes are all down-to-earth and economical. She seems to take pains to not send you to the most difficult or gourmet store in your city. And for the most part, you really don't have to. She shows how "common" ingredients like black-eyed peas, sweet potatoes and greens can be combined with readily available spices to make delicious, international foods that can easily become family favorites. She also supplies a page worth of lists of ideas for sandwich toppings, in case you're not at home to make every meal for yourself.

There's a lot of tofu here- that may be an issue for 21st century vegans- and quite a bit of sugar in the desserts section. The dessert section, unfortunately, isn't as wonderful as the rest of the book, although I like that she supplies vegan alternatives for popular dessert sauces- yay!

Once again, McCartney showed how easily one could feed themselves on a vegetarian diet, but this time she shows that you can have a little more fun with it than you thought before.

However, Ms. McCartney relies a little too heavily on meat substitutes in her recipes. For example, she uses vegetarian sausages and vegetarian ground "meat" in many of the recipes. I would recommend finding a book that relies on the wonderful flavors of fresh vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, and grains, rather than on a fake processed product.
