5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for people who want to try vegetarian cooking.
This is one of the best practical cookbooks for vegetarian cooking that I've read. Unlike most of its genre, this book focuses on foods that people really eat. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great For Those Who Miss Meat
I give this book 5 stars for those who are vegetarian (or even not vegetarian) and miss the taste of hearty meat dishes. Linda usually includes recipes that use meat substitues and rich ingredients, and in this book, there's not a lot of anything else.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for people who want to try vegetarian cooking., December 27, 1996

This is one of the best practical cookbooks for vegetarian cooking that I've read. Unlike most of its genre, this book focuses on foods that people really eat. Unlike books such as the Moosewood series that seem to insist you become accustomed to unfamiliar foods and cooking methods that will keep you in the kitchen for hours, Linda McCartney's book uses familiar tastes and preparation methods. Some of the ingredients will be difficult for some to find, however. Since the recipes center around meat-like meals, many use ingredients like TVP and prepackaged vegetarian products. The results are tasty, but be prepared to do some searching in the grocery store. The recipes are very British -- they use lots of butter, cheeses, and are not low in fat. On the other hand, these recipes will be more attractive to those who want to make a gradual transition into vegetarianism, or simply add a few meatless dishes to their weekly diet that their families will actually eat. If you want to try this book, you ought to have basic cooking skills because little is explained. Overall, a very practical book full of foods most Western families will enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Vegetarian cookbook., July 16, 1999

As a 10 year Vegetarian I can say that this is the best and most inspiring cookbook that I had ever read. The receipes are fast and easy. The best part is that even my nonvegetarian husband loves them too.

This year I got interested in becoming a vegetarian. So, I decided to try out this book to see if I liked it. I made a couple things out of this book and I was amazed by the easy and fast recipies, and the delicious outcomes. I wish Linda was still around to put together more cookbooks like this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars My All-Time Favorite Cookbook, December 5, 2000
By A Customer
I felt obligated to take a moment to write a review for this book! It is without a doubt, my favorite cookbook. I have made nearly every recipe in the book and never had a miss. It is my kitchen bible! Some of the best include: asparagus soup, corn pudding, and sour cream enchiladas.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book you will refer to over and over again., May 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Linda's Kitchen: Simple and Inspiring Recipes for Meatless Meals (Paperback)
I bought this book after the author's death, and have tried most of the recipes in it. All were delicious and easy to prepare. I find myself returning to this text over and over again when I have an abundance of vegetables ripe in my garden and want an inventive way to prepare them as a main meal. An excellent vegetarian cookbook.

I give this book 5 stars for those who are vegetarian (or even not vegetarian) and miss the taste of hearty meat dishes. Linda usually includes recipes that use meat substitues and rich ingredients, and in this book, there's not a lot of anything else.

So for vegetarians like myself, who just plain don't like the idea of meat - the texture, the taste, the heaviness - it's not the best. I averaged my score out to 3 stars, but really it's not for you if you want what the average vegetarian palate gets to experience more often than the carnivore's: an international and interesting taste selection. Try "Linda McCartney's World of Vegetarian Cooking" to achieve that effect.

"Linda's Kitchen" is, however, almost certainly for you if you're vegetarian for other reasons and want to regain that meaty heartiness in the kitchen - minus the meat itself. It is also for a more adventurous chef who enjoys using varied ingredients. You'll be able to find these ingredients at most grocery stores, but she does tend to use quite a bit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Practical Vegetarian Cookbook, September 20, 2002
By
Marguerite Pruett (Elgin, SC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Linda's Kitchen: Simple and Inspiring Recipes for Meatless Meals (Paperback)
I was delighted to find this book to be entirely practical. So many vegetarian cookbooks contain unknown or hard-to-find ingredients, and some of the recipes are often rehashed versions of old tofu mixtures. Linda's book is one of the best vegetarian recipe collections I've found, based on fresh and commonly found ingredients; filled with the kinds of meals people usually eat. This cookbook will be used often, and not just another book on your shelf. A great book for beginning vegetarians and those who just want a healthier diet! Her recipes have excellent flavor, and the ideas will spark many new combinations of your own!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great recipes, August 4, 2005

Excellent recipes, all of her cookbooks are great. Often it's just a meat substitution from a standard recipe (like shepherd's pie), but the meals are great and you don't even think about meat (or lack thereof). Everything is very clearly and concisely written, and most meals don't take very long to make. The longest ones have a lot of oven time, so you don't actually have to be doing something for so long.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is great!, June 9, 2007
This review is from: Linda's Kitchen: Simple and Inspiring Recipes for Meatless Meals (Paperback)
I haven't written any reviews on this site. But when I bought two items, I thought that I should start. One was on Linda's CD and the other was on this book. This book is great. I am a vegetarian by nature. I was never a meat lover except for fish, cheese, and eggs. This book provides a lot of recipes on every day foods that are as good as they are clever. I have enjoyed this book and I haven't even had it a week, yet. It's chocked full of colorful pictures and scrumptious recipes. I loved it from beginning to end. I haven't made all the recipes I wanted to, yet, but I'm working on it. I have a feeling this book will be a staple in my cooking library.
