4.0 out of 5 stars An entire world to explore. January 4, 2013
Subscription Term Name:Base Game - PC
First- Second Life is NOT a game. It's vastly more. It's an entire virtual world. If you log on and are disappointed to not see quests and leveling up a character then you might want to pause and realize that there is far more than meets the eye.

Live your second life how you want!

If you want to play games, then there are vast resident run roleplay areas. Health meters, levels and pvp fighting can happen there. Even better you could play a vampire in the morning, a stormtrooper in the afternoon and a timelord at night all from the same avatar if you join multiple roleplay communities.

For those who want to dress up and be a virtual fashionista there are ample options for clothing. Music lovers can hear new works from independent musicians, fresh DJ's or just enjoy virtual karaoke. There are communities for almost any interest.

As a resident of Second Life since 2007 I can say I've barely even scratched the surface of what you can find. Explore, have fun and discover why those of us who have stuck around do so.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Open World but has some issues April 24, 2013
Subscription Term Name:Base Game - PC
First of all. Lets be clear right off the back. and honestly i think Amazon should issue a warning under the product info that this game really is for adults only. If you have kids or teens you should not let them play the game unless you create a "teen" account (entering an age below 18 i think will limit them to PG areas only) HOWEVER, once they find out about the game all they have to do is create a new account and enter a fake birthday to access the other areas.

For kids/teens this is really not an appropriate game as there are a ton of "adult" themed areas. For adults however this can be a fun virtual world. The problem is however the clients often crash, you end up having loading issues sometimes with avatars (you go through all that work to make a nice looking character and half of the time people cant see you yet)

if you have a slow internet connection i would not recommend second life, Also be careful about who you connect with on the game there are a lot of immature closed minded people and it took me years to find someone worth connecting to. However, if you have the patience and the open mind dispite the bugs and problems there is really nothing else like this out there. There are other "virtual worlds" but they either have so low population that its not really worth it, or dated graphics and interfaces, Second Life really lets you do what you want and you can connect with all types of people.

Just be aware however it seems lately a large more bit of people are joining from other countries who may not speak english that great so..always good to ask someone where they are from first :-).

also a warning. I would not buy any of the "item" bundles.

5.0 out of 5 stars All that and more! January 4, 2013
Subscription Term Name:Base Game - PC
Second Life is not a game in the strictest sense of the word. There is no definitive end objective. Each resident of the virtual world gets to decide how to spend their time - on quests, socializing, creating content, learning, teaching or exploring. There's something for everyone... fashionistas, artists, musicians, poets, writers, gamers, scoialites, adventurers, lovers and fighters. Users can even find games within the game. It's a rich, user-created environment with endless opportunities for fun, friendship and creativity.

Some aspects of Second Life require patience. There's a little learning curve to the interface, and just like the real world, it takes a little time to form a comfortable social circle. However, Second Life is populated with many friendly, helpful users. It is supported by an extensive knowledgebase, community forums, tutorials, both on the Second Life website, and on thousands of third-party, user created websites.

I've been a resident of Second Life for over five years, and run a retail business in the world. Through a number of user created groups, I am able to network with like minded people and other content creators, keep in touch with my client base, and make new friends. When I'm not working, I love exploring, shopping, taking pictures, galloping around on my virtual horse... and... did I mention shopping?

Simply put, it's a wonderful world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Limited only by your imagination January 4, 2013
Subscription Term Name:Base Game - PC
Do not be deceived by your somewhat basic beginning state or by the apparent lack of information on how to proceed once you get logged in. There is an entire world to explore and to perhaps stake your own claim to a piece of. Experiment with it. Think of it like a live multiplayer version of other 1st person games level designer. Anything and everything you need to improve your own appearance or your experience in this virtual world you can either find somewhere for sale or make for yourself.. The learning curve is worth it!

Roleplay in just about every genre and scenario you can imagine and many that you can't....

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic January 4, 2013
By Reiko
Subscription Term Name:Base Game - PC|Verified Purchase
Nearly limitless things to do. You can do just about anything you can imagine. The platform is a place where you can make what you think up as well as see what others can think up. I am always amazed with the things people do. It is also a place where you can participate in how your world looks, not just subject to how the company thinks it should, like in most other "games".

I don't understand the game. Everything is moving and loading like I'm on DSL and all the graphics are just advertisements for game add-ons.
