Bass players can combine any of the 28 badass bass amp and 22 bass cab models with any one of its killer studio-grade mic preamps, high-end compressors and super-cool stompboxes. Better yet, why not use Dual Tone processing to run up to nine of those stompboxes and studio processors on each of your two simultaneous bass rigs . . . in stereo! Now that’s lowdown and dirty.

Singers can run their studio microphone into the XLR input and take advantage of the warm and rich suite of mic preamp and compressor models provided by POD X3. Adding a touch of top-quality vintage spring or digital reverb will put that professional touch on all your best songs.

Perform live using POD X3 Dual Tone processing to turn your POD X3 into both a vocal processor/preamp (via XLR input) and a guitar amp modeler/effector (via 1/4-inch input), and simply send a single stereo pair to the house as you sing and play your sensitive heart out! While you’re at it, why not a route a drum machine or sampler to the Auxiliary input for a little backing beat?

POD X3 isn’t simply the most full-featured amp and effect modeler in the world. It’s also a USB 2.0-based multi-channel digital recording interface, boasting top-tier specs like 24-bit studio-quality A/D and D/A converters and 32-bit floating point processing for sharp, clear audio imaging.

Its 1/4-inch and XLR inputs can be used to simultaneously record two individual instruments or microphones to separate tracks in your DAW, each in stereo and each with the option of recording a dry or processed signal. POD X3 also includes a S/PDIF Stereo Digital Audio output for recording direct to pro applications like Pro Tools, Logic Pro and others.

Geez, where to start. This thing is unreal. For the gigging musician you only need to plug your Mic into the XLR input and your guitar/bass into the guitar input, dial up your favorite patches (you can create your own "User" patches), and run your output into the house PA. No amp or other gear to lug around!!

This thing has truly great guitar/bass sounds and great vocal sounds both out of this one unit. What I really like about it is that the key parameters (gain, EQ, presence, volume, reverb) ALL have their own dedicated knobs on top of the fumbling thru a bunch of confusing and dimly lit menus. And when you are at the gig there is a way to get the patch number to take up the whole LED (in BIG letters) so you can actually see what patch you are using. And did I mention the sound....I have Boss 600 digital recorder with amp/bass models which until I got the Pod, I thought were pretty good. Well I no longer use the Boss for guitar sounds. Instead, now I run the Pod into the 600 (which is a great digital multitrack recorder with so/so effects).

And now lets talk about the studio. This IS your computer audio interface. The Pod interfaces with your computer (Logic, Cubase, Gband, etc.) via a USB interface. You get simultaneous wet and dry outputs over the USB so you can get all the inspiration the Pod gives you but if you choose, record dry while your DAW is tracking. You can also use your DAW to cycle the Pod thru patch changes if that is the direction you want to go. The Line 6 website has updates/drivers and you will want to plug your Pod into your computer and follow the update instructions on the LIne 6 download page.

I was using a V-Amp2 for the last year and a half, but I must say, the POD X3 has retired it! The QUALITY and clarity in it's tone is heads and shoulders above the V-Amp2, although it is slightly more difficult to operate. It is sooo deep, you can get overwhelmed, and I feel the manual is abit lacking, but overall, just take the time to learn how to tweak it, and there is literally NOTHING you can't do with this unit.

I play everything from classic rock to black metal, and I have no problem whatsoever dialing in a tone I need. I have used it with electric guitar, electric-acoustic, bass, and if I could sing(which I can't), I can do vocals with the POD X3 too!

The ONLY complaint I have is that there is no auto-wah - it models 6 different wah-wah pedals, but without the FBV expression pedal(must purchase separately), there is no 'wah-ing' going on...

**EDIT: my mistake! there IS an auto-wah, it is listed under 'stompbox', NOT under 'wah'...

Products I've Owned:

Several Line6 Spider amps (heads & combos)
Pod 2.0
Pod HD Desktop
Pod Farm
Pod UX2 Interface

I'll start right off by saying the Pod X3 is my favorite Line6 product thus far by a mile! It blows the 2.0 away without even trying. I can't compare it to the Pod XT since I've never played one but my research clearly shows the X3 sounds better & has much more to offer. The HD model was fine but, frankly, it had a very limited selection of high gain amps & I felt the few they did have just lacked the presence & dynamics I can pull off with the X3. Does the HD sound better? Not necessarily in my opinion but that's all relative I guess. Some say yes, some say no.

I play primarily djent & I'm a die hard fan of the 5150. I've owned an original 5150 stack & a 6505 combo so I know what a Peavey is "supposed" to sound like. I LOVE the Pod's version of the 5150! It's as close as you're ever gonna get to the real thing & I'm blown away by how faithfully they reproduced this amp, The trademark mid-range, the punch & resonance, the dynamics & the way the chords ring out & the clarity are just .....there! Somehow they managed to do cram all that into 1 little digital model & I have no idea how. The "elite" high gain models (Diezel, Bogner, Engl) just sound awesome. Though I've never owned any of them, I have to imagine they sound awfully close to the originals. The cleans & in-between tones on the X3 are light years beyond the original Pod 2.0. I still can't get over the difference. Then there's all the effects & stomp boxes.

Ok, I don't know where to start. So I'll tell you, this thing is awesome. I spent a few months reading reviews, watching videos and finally I decided to buy the POD X3. I wasn't pretty sure if the videos were realistic, same thing about the reviews... but when "the kidney of rock" came to me, I was astonished. You can't imagine the variety of sounds you can achieve, and the parameters you can manipule are SO specific... it's incredible. I still can't believe this thing can do all this.

If you're looking for a REAL sound and you don't wanna spend your whole budget, I recommend this product. If you're looking for a REAL sound and you DO wanna spend your whole budget... I still recommend you this. Grab an amp, put it on a cabinet, select what kind of mic you want to place in front of this "virtual" amp, then add a stomp box, verb, delay, modulation effects, comp (the POD X3's compressor is SO great!), configure the ammount of drive and all that stuff and you're ready to go. You can use 2 tones at the same time, run them through one amp, through 2 separate amps, through the house PA directly, or send the signal into a console to record. You can record the tones in separate tracks, too. You can plug in a bass guitar, there are some cool bass amp simulations that can be VERY useful if you want to record in your home with your band, you can plug a microphone and send your voice through the POD, also with some cool effects (megaphone vocal, for example). You can do WHATEVER YOU WANT. The quantity of amp models, stomps, and all that stuff is AWESOME!

I bought the X3 and not the X3 live because I wanted something that I could handle myself with my bare hands, which is really comfortable to me. I was tired of going down to the floor to set my pedalboard's config.
