This review is for POD Farm 2.
I bought POD Farm given the relatively low price ($39 with a free upgrade to POD Farm 2). Now I constantly see POD Farm for $40-$50.
I'll start with the negative aspects:
-Requires an iLok. Although I use an iLok I hate it and avoid products that require its use.
-I did not see anything significant added in version 2. I had received version 1 free.
-Very limited when compared to other POD Farm editions or alternative products such as Guitar Rig, TH2, GTR3, etc.
-Expensive for what it does offer. I can understand that other POD Farm editions will offer more features, but this one doesn't offer much.
-Only works as a plugin, but not in standalone mode.
Lacks features other modelers have, such as looper, recording, etc.
-Reminds me more of FREE limited versions of other modelers (e.g., Amplitube). This falls somewhere between the free ones and a "regular" modeler.

In the late 90s Line6 Amp Farm gave me my first glimpse at digital amp modeling. At a friend's studio he showed me the ProTools plugin, as well as a couple of real amps (Marshall, Fender) and an analog modeler (SansAmp Classic). I loved the idea. Over time, similar products have been developed and prices have dropped dramatically.
Although I loved the idea, I've never been a fan of Line6's sounds, whether in software, hardware (e.g., POD) or amp form.

The positive aspects:
+Plenty of presets. Back when I got version 1 I found many presets online. I just checked and I have 7902 presets. For people who like presets -and I'm usually not one of them- this is a positive.
+Relatively cheap at $40-$50. If you don't have an iLok that's an additional expense.
+Easy to use.
+Components can be loaded separately.

Ordered and returned this when I found out I need to buy a separate iLok key for $40. I got this first because I had a physical Pod unit that I liked. Ended up buying Peavy's Revalver and liked the Peavy modeling technology much more, and no need to be subjected to a third party physical DRM system on your computer.

I'm sure that this product would probably sound fine; I've heard a few good recordings on which it is used. However...

The company decided to add an unwieldy copy-protection scam, er.... scheme calld "iLok" that only ****** legitimate buyers into paying ~$40 for a dongle that might stop working at any moment (google "ilok hate" for the horror stories). IF I had known that this product used said iLok, i would not have purchased it - of course their marketing team knows that most people wouldn't, so they just DON'T TELL YOU ABOUT IT until you open the box.

BUYER BEWARE of all iLok-infested products.

I already had a decent understanding of how Pod Farm worked . In a matter of 15 minutes i had the Metal sound i'd been looking for in Guitar emulated Plug Ins . I've used Amplitube 3 , Guitar Rig 4 etc. and "NONE" of them can i get the kind of grit Metal sound i have with Pod Farm ... In "NO" way am i discrediting either of them . In My Melodic Heavy Metal Band , We play through LINE 6 HD147 Stacks that we've grown pig headed of the sound they create for us . Nonetheless , The compliments that we've gotten from them are just awesome . We are recording in Cubase 5 , And i removed the Amplitube 3 Plugins from the Inserts chain and replaced them with Pod Farm and "WOW", Nothing less than amazing . I haven't really messed around much with all the other features of Pod Farm , At the moment i'm so satisfied with our sound that i haven't had no reason to . My shopping experience has been picture perfect with "AMAZON.COM", I definately will be shopping through them for "ALL" my musical needs 4 sure ... Thanx so much AMAZON - You Da Bomb ...

First you must have an ilok which is just as much as the software. Then you only can use line 6 interfaces. Only the second version can use other brand interfaces which was never. Then Music123 wouldnt return product and they claim they want you satisfied. liars
