5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging Pageturner, January 11, 2004
This review is from: Line of Duty (Newpointe 911 Series #5) (Paperback)
After having read the first four novels in the Newpointe 911 series, I was thrilled when Ms. Blackstock decided to release another that weaves a Christian tale around corporate scandal and terrorism. Her flare is in penning pageturners, but specifically she excels at the Christian murder mystery genre, an ocean's distance from her previous works in the romance market. In a Judeo-Christian country market, you would think this sort of novel would be appealing to the masses, but secular society craves drugs, sex, and rock-n-roll. And oh, by the way, she doesn't ignore these topics in her novels. She just refuses to glorify them.

5.0 out of 5 stars When the smoke clears, August 17, 2004

This review is from: Line of Duty (Newpointe 911 Series #5) (Paperback)
A firemans nightmare, a thirty story building and a bomb that blows the lid off of your Imagination. Put yourself inside a burning building on the top floor, this is what has happened to Attorney Jill Clark Nichols. The Icon International building in New Orleans is now on fire and the fire is spreading. Fire trucks are dispatched from all over the city to fight the unthinkable type fire, the high rise. Jills husband is on the job trying to save his wife, knowing she is on the top floor. He enters the building and it happens again, but this time not just one bomb but two or more bombs go off causing the floors to fall burying people beneath the concrete and steel. The fireman fight the fire until they gain control and as the smoke clears the body count begins. Jill seemed to have made it out of the burning building, but her husband seems to be missing. This book is a must read to find out, is her husband Dan one of the dead or is there more to the story than it seems. Were the bombs an act of a terrorist or is there some one else to blame? 5.0 out of 5 stars Blackstock's Best, November 12, 2003
By
"coverdalegirl" (New Brunswick, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Line of Duty (Newpointe 911 Series #5) (Paperback)
This is the fifth book in the Newpointe 911 series and it is by far the best! Maybe it's because the character's were already familiar friends or because it addresses an emotional situation similar to what happened on September 11, 2001. I actually cried while reading this book and that doesn't happen to me very often. It was very moving and very well written. If you enjoyed the first 4 books in this series you'll love this one. A must read for any Blackstock fan.

This was an awesome story line. I could not but it down and when I did, I couldn't wait to get back to it. I hope that Terri does not stop with this book. This series is so perfectly written and should not be stopped.

5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting Read, August 16, 2004
This review is from: Line of Duty (Newpointe 911 Series #5) (Paperback)
Terri Blackstock never fails to satisfy her fans. Line of Duty puts readers into the midst of the chaos when bombs begin to explode in a multi-storied building. Readers tag along as people flee the building and fire fighters from all over the area try to rescue the buildings occupants. You will not want to put this book down as authorities search for victims and perpetrators. I plan to share this timly adventure with all my reading friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, October 21, 2011
This review is from: Line of Duty (Newpointe 911 Series #5) (Paperback)
I have read Terri Blackstock's books for some years. However, I only discovered this series some years after the books were written, but better late than never. I hope this series continues because Christian fiction can be truly uplifting or can turn non-Christians away from it. I love Blackstock's writing for the simple reason that she doesn't pretend that the Christian life is a bed of roses.

One reviewer said she disliked Christian writers having their characters question why good people suffer--but that is exactly what people do--like it or not. We have this idea that if we love God and accept Jesus as our Saviour, somehow we will live a problem free life--that our prayers will be answered just as we want them to be.

Sometimes it happens this way, but so many times, we are left with pain and sorrow. Yes, we do know that Christians have problems, but still--there is this feeling that God will come through for us in our own way.

Anyway, this book was extremely interesting to me. I somehow resented Ashley's extreme grief over her mother when she was so extreme in her rebellion against her mother and her values. Also, I did not like who actually was the bomber. I wish that could have been different. I know Blackstock was showing that outward goodness is not always the picture that God sees; He sees the heart, as in Ashley's case.

I hope this series continues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good novel, October 2, 2011

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Line of Duty (Newpointe 911 Series #5) (Paperback)
"Line of Duty" is a Christian suspense novel that turns into a general fiction with a mystery. This is the fifth book in the series, but it reads like a stand-alone.

The suspense in the first part was mainly created by the physical danger that the various characters were in and then wondering which characters survived. After that, the suspense was created by relationship tension, regret and sorrow leading characters toward potentially bad decisions, and the side mystery of who blew up the building. The mystery was handled realistically and was not easily guessable ahead of time.

The characters were varied, interesting, and dealt with realistic problems. The story's focus was mainly on dealing with loss (and why God would allow it) and on loving people who are different. Most of the characters were Christians who were mutually struggling to understand why God allowed some to live, some to die, and some to have life-changing injuries.

There were no sex scenes. There was a very minor amount of "he cussed" style of bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this interesting novel.

I have read several of Terri's books and have come to really enjoy the twist of mystery in her books as well as the Christian part of them. She has been added to my list of Christian(contemporary) authors.
