"In The Line Of Fire" Review,
By Crazy Jim (Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In the Line of Fire (Audio CD)
As the stand-out member of Tupac Shakur's "Outlawz", Hussein Fatal seemed destined for big things but following his mentor's death and his subsequent departure from the group, Fatal found himself in career limbo. On his solo debut off of Relativey, Fatal was hoping to establish himself as a major contendor in the rap game and do it all by his lonely. Unfortunately, he fell a few steps short. While die-hard Outlaw fans enjoyed it, this album did not quite live up to many people's expectations and the dismal sales figures didn't help matters either. While cuts such as "Friday", "Everyday", and "Take Your Time" made for decent music, they just didn't provide incentive enough to keep this one in the CD player on a regular basis. The same Fatal who blazed the mic on tracks like "Made N--gaz" and "When We Ride" just doesn't seem to make the same impression without his infamous cohorts behind him. This isn't to say that Fatal doesn't have what it takes as a solo act but let's just say, he didn't quite find his niche on this one. If you love the Outlawz, you're gonna want to add it to your collection but anyone else may want to hold off on dropping some dollars on this one.

Despite not being on a huge label and featuring none of his Outlawz buddies, Hussein Fatal delivers a solid and impressive debut. Not as "hard" as I thought it was going to be, it still is very good and impressive. Feature Mac Mall, Mercilless X, ONS, Antoinette Roberson (although most go unlisted) and perhaps a few more. Only has 11 songs with no real weak point, one can easily listen through from start to finish with no need to skip any songs. There is 1 classic, 2 near classics, and 2 are just ok songs. The production is a little different then what I thought it would be, but he adapts well to make it work. Rob Reef Tewlow, Delite, and Steve Pitts all do 2 songs, and Courtney Burgess, Quim, Femi, Baby Paul, D'Anthony Johnson each do 1. A must have for Outlaw fans.#1 - 9 (has a minute 40 second intro before he raps) #2 - 10 (Classic)(f/...) #3 - 8 #4 - 7.5 (f/..) #5 - 9 (uses MC REn's "If It Ain't Ruff" beat of NWA's "Straight Outta Compton" album) #6 - 8 (f/ ONS...) #7 - 9.5 #8 - 7.5 #9 - 8 (f/...) #10 - 8.5 #11 - 7.5 b. -- Bruce Washington ---- New Jersey OUTLAWZ!!!!! check all my reviews

Fatal gives you a taste of what the rap game is or should be with in the line of fire. The last remaining origonal outlaw demonstrates his lyrical abillities on songs such as M.O.B. and ghetto star. Unquestionably he is the most gifted writer of the remaining outlawz (third only to pac and kadafi) the one problem even though it's a small one is he never get's to "deep" by deep I mean he stays away from some of the heavy topics you would expect from an outlaw or someone who was so close to Pac. Over all this CD still gets 5 out of 5 cuz fatals tight and In the line of Fire reflects it.

Big Syke's album :be yo self was tight....but Fatals album is the tightest outlawz album i heard so far....but jus recently i pick up Gonzoe's new album...one of the outlawz newest outlawz along with L.S. who's representin o.b.b., he's from the east coast. Even though Fatal dont got no outlawz appearing on his joint..its still hella tyte..an he give up much love to them throughout the entire album. The beats are heavy, an nice, an his lyrics are hella tyte..if you down with the outlawz, pick this joint up!!! Pick up Gonzoe : if i live and nothing happens too, its got tha outlawz, regime members, its hella tyte!! OUTLAW IMMORTALZ 4 life

THIRD, FORTH BEST OUTLAW?,

WE ALL KNOW THAT THE OUTLAWZ, LEAD BY PAC CAN KICK IT WITH THE BEST BUT HOW DO THEY DO ON THEIR OWN? FATAL IS BY KNOW MEANS THE BEST OUTLAW OR THE BEST RAPPER IN THE WORLD BUT HE HAS SKILLS. RANKED IN MY OPPINION BEHIND PAC KADAFI AND NAPOLEAN FATAL IS STILL ONE OF THE BEST RAPPERS AROUND. THE OUTLAWZ ARE THE BEST RAP GROUP IN RECENT HISTORY,SIGNED TO DEATHROW THEY WILL SOON BE RELEASING AN ALBUM WITH PAC FEATURING ON THE CD. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO IT AND IF THIS CD FROM 1998 IS ANYTHING TO GO BY IT SHOULD BE A GOOD ALBUM I WOULD BUY THIS ALBUM IF YOU LIKE THE OUTLAWZ STYLE OR YOU HAVE BEEN INPRESSED BY HUSSEIN HIMSELF. THROUGOUT THE WORLD OF RAP THIS ALBUM HAS RECEIVED LITTLE RECOGNISITION BUT I STILL THINK IT IT A VERY GOOD ALBUM AND SHOWS WHAT RAP IS ABOUT. THE TRACKS THAT STAND OUT WITH ME ARE EVERYDAY AND M.O.B. EVERYDAY HAS TO BE THE BEST TRACK ON THE ALBUM, IT IS A TRUIBUTE TO THE LATE TUPAC SHAKUR, IT IS A VREY GOOD RAP CONBINED WITH A FAT BEAT. BUY THIS ALBUM.

HOT!!!,
This review is from: In the Line of Fire (Audio CD)
This album is hot! The lyrics on this album are definatly razor sharp and u wont be disappointed with the lyrical part. The only bad thing i see in this cd is some of the songs i just didnt like(only like 2).But i got to say i liked a major majority of the cd even though its only 11 songs long. The quality of the tracks are good and make up for the shortness of the cd.If u are a Outlawz fan u better scoop this cd as soon as possible and then u will realize how talented Fatal really is. Hes got to be the best out of all the Outlawz no doubt even though some come close to Fatals skill they cant compare.Fatal hussein has what is takes to go big he just aint got the hype thats all these other weak radio rappers got and if he had some bomb beats he would undoubtly be seen as one of the best rappers today.Songs like M.O.B., Friday,Times wastin, and Whats ya life worth definatly show Fatal's lyrical skill and make this album worth buying.Don't buy this cd if u are looking for tupac or any of the other outlawz cuz it aint got much of them on it, matter of fact none of tupac. If ur lookin for a hot rappers whos been around for a while and a dam good cd,then purchase this album

I bought this the day it came out... like 6 years ago... since then a friend 'borrowed' it and I moved on. Came back looking for a song off it. Anyhow - decided to write up a 'lil bit about it. Ok, given the time of this - it is sick. Pure, raw, way underrated. It is without a doubt one of the best alblums to come out of the west EVER (which inherently means one of the best ever.) If half of them hadn't been ... shot then we'd be talking about them ... This is a MUST HAVE for anyone who knows (or wants to know) what good [stuff] is. Up and down at times - there's about four tracks I'd ditch. However, the rest is mind blownin' good. Must have, hands down.

Hussein Fatal's debut album is off the hook. I didn't know what to expect with this release (...). I was surprised about this release because I am not really an outlawz fan but Fatal seperates himself and distinguishes himself as a solo artist on In The Line Of Fire. The album lyrically comes with east coast lyricist type rhymes and the beats come with a mixture of east and west coast, alot of west coast sounding basslines and choruses and instrumentally it sounds east coast, the flavor of this album is completely original. Every song is pretty much about life itself.from beginning to end this album is great, even though it has just 11 tracks. You can listen to the whole album without hitting the skip button. Alot of the chorus got a lil r&b flavor but it isnt your average hip-hop r&b collaboration, it still sounds hip hop and does nothing but add to the track. Overall an excellent album, its a shame it never got promoted well. He should teach the rest of the Lawz how to rhyme. |
