Tommy Skyler was the star quarterback of his football team with dreams of going to the NFL but a family tragedy put his career in another direction. Tommy may be the youngest of Station Five, but he knows what he wants and he wants Shea Ford. BADLY.
Shea is very attracted to Tommy but thinks he may be too young for forever. Thinking she may be better off with Prescott the city manager of their town and a seemingly ok, if not boring guy. Seemingly is the operative word.
Things change when Tommy gets hurt and Shea realizes the depths of her feelings for him.
But things change even more with the growing trend of buildings being destroyed for unknown reasons that leads to at least one murder.
LINE OF FIRE by Jo Davis is the latest in her popular Station Five series and in my opinion the next one cannot
get here fast enough. Tommy, Shea and the secondary characters are the type of people that you can imagine hanging with on a weekend and have you care about them almost as much as the main characters. The action is fast paced and will have you holding your breath and hoping that the unthinkable didn't really happen. The love scenes will
have you getting something cold to drink inside of a freezer.
Even though LINE OF FIRE is part of a series it can be read as a standalone, but will have you running back to store to get the rest in the series.

Jo Davis pens another scorcher in Line Of Fire. Its another compelling story of the men and woman of Station Five Firefighters.

Tommy Skylar's life changed dramatically when his brother Donny was killed in the war. Tommy lost all interest in his possible NFL career and turned his focus to being a top notch fireman. He has struggled with his life choices and even now isn't sure he is in the right place for him. When Tommy becomes hurt on the job he lands at his favorite nurses ER table. Shea Ford hasn't shown much interest in Tommy but he is bound and determined to change her mind.

Nurse Shea Ford was badly hurt in her past and his gun shy around strong athletic men. Tommy sets all of her senses on edge and she fights her attraction to him. But getting to know him she realizes he is nothing like the man from her past. Their relationship grows and becomes deeper then either could have imagined.

Nevertheless there is an enemy out there that will stop at nothing to tear these newly lovers apart. When Tommy is caught in the middle can their love overcome this obstacle?

Line Of Fire is explosive, you feel like you are right there on the front lines fight the fires with these brave men and woman. Tommy and Shea's relationship develops at a beautiful pace. Their relationship with each other and their friends at depth and another layer to a wonderful book. I am so looking forward to the Captains book from Fire Station Five.

Pretty boy Tommy Skyler's down home manners and irresistible charm hide a hidden pain. He is one of the most attractive men from Station 5, but he doesn't let it go to his head because Tommy wants to make a difference and he isn't sure being a firefighter is what he wants to do for the rest of his life. The woman of his dreams often refuses to give him the time of day, however, things change in an instant when a work related accident puts him in the hospital and under the care of the one woman he wants but can't have - Shea Ford.

Shea is a nurse. She protects her heart by allowing no one close - not even the man she desires and craves all the time - Tommy Skyler. When an accident leaves Tommy a changed man, Shea no longer is able to pretend she feels nothing. And so she takes a chance on her firefighter, and in his arms the world and all her worries seem to go away.

Just as Shea and Tommy fall in love, an unknown presence has Tommy in his sights. With just each other to rely on Tommy and Shea's love has to be enough to keep them alive.

Grab a fan and settle in for one heck of a smoking hot read. Tommy, while young, is mature and knows what he wants. He is sexy, yet grounded and for me, that made him all the more attractive. Shea took me a bit longer to like. I think it was her indecisiveness concerning Tommy. I wanted to yell at her more than once to hurry and take a chance on this loveable man or I would. Fiery hot love scenes and a look inside the twisted mind of a killer makes Line of Fire stand out. Add in the behind the scenes look at the other characters and I could read this book over and over!

When his brother a marine died in combat, University of Alabama All American quarterback Tommy Skyler quit playing football though he had a promising pro career. Instead as homage to his late sibling he decided to become a first responder so he joined the fire department. He is assigned to work at Station Five.

Tommy is attracted to nurse Shea Ford, an older woman who rejects his forward pass attempts as she feels he is too young for her. When he is injured during a high story scaffolding rescue mission, they meet up at the hospital. She shocks him when she agrees to go out with him. She enjoys her time with Tommy and him with her. However, after suffering another on the job injury at a warehouse fire caused by an arsonist, Tommy ends their relationship upsetting Shea who has fallen in love with the younger firefighter. Depressed as his second career firefighting appears over but also missing the woman he loves, Tommy begins to believe someone wants to end his relationship with Shea and collateral deaths are acceptable

The latest Firefighters of Station Five (see Under Fire and Hidden Fire) romantic suspense is loaded with plenty of action as the heroic first responders fight fires, investigate arson, and mount rescues. The return of recurring firefighters and their loved ones add to the sense of danger as each risk their lives. The lead couple is a likable pairing, but the age issue is never delved into beyond Shea's rationale not to date Tommy. Still, fans of the Station Five saga will enjoy the exciting Line of Fire.

and it's really more like 4.5 stars. Tommy & Shea were totally believeable together and made a great couple. Tommy is definitely put through the ringer with accidents & injuries(although no where near as much as poor Zach - and let's thank goodness for THAT). The sex scenes were totally sizzling - Tommy has a lot of experience in his short 23 years.

Great update on all of the other characters and we get to see Zach and Cori get married. Sean is still tormenting himself with what happened to his family, but in this book he finally is forced to face reality. I would suggest starting at the beginning of this series just so you can have the background of all of the characters. Not totally necessary, but highly recommended.

The book ends with sort of a cliffhanger and there is a preview of Sean's book at the end. I so can't wait for that one!!!

I'm telling you right now, I'm going to finish all 5 of these books in less than 24 hours.

Ok, the sex scenes continue to be hot and creative. I have to give Ms. Davis that! And again, dirty and blunt, perfect for my style of reading. These aren't shy virgins you're reading about...;)

The story itself:

Tommy- heartbreak. The tale of losing his brother rang very true (from a woman that lost hers in Afghanistan). The pain drives him to help others, change his life, be something meaningful...and leads him down a different path than he would have chosen- right to Shea. And then things happen to him that cause him to have to choose- again and again. And the way he chooses...breaks your heart at the same time it makes you feel like you just can't stop. At points, I was crying.

Shea- wow. She had overcome so much- and done so much with her life- and a great testament to loving someone for how they are. And while her character doesn't feel as fleshed out as Tommy to me- probably because you know a lot of sides of him from the rest of the series...

It's a great read- no real secrets about who or what is going down- and the lack of a mystery didn't detract from the fact that the story itself was great.

Line Of Fire is book #4 in in the romantic, suspenseful and sexy firefighters of station five series. This time through we get apparent Brad Pitt lookalike Tommy Skylar's story. At 23 he's the youngest member of `A' shift, a former star quarterback, Tommy had dreams of going to the NFL until the death of his brother in Iraq changed everything. Striving to make his parents proud Tommy joined the Fire Dept but still isn't sure it's where he wants to be.

So far I've really enjoyed this series, I mean how could you not? With hard bodied firemen heroes, smoking hot love scenes, and exciting action-suspense storylines it's always a great ride. Part of the fun in reading these books is also the anticipation of how many trips to the hospital our heroes will have to endure before they get the bad guy and win the girl. Jo Davis just loves to beat up her men and it's become a bit of a game for me counting the injuries. I also like how all the books are connected with updates from past characters and continuing story arcs. Here we get to catch up with 6-Pack, Zach, Julian and their Captain Sean's ongoing struggle with the bottle.

ER nurse Shea Ford has been trying to avoid Tommy's irresistible charm and ongoing advances. She thinks that he's way too young for the strong feelings he brings out in her and that she'd be much safer dating Prescott, a boring city planner. After Tommy lands in her ER (the 1st time) Shea finally concedes to a date and the two fall for each other pretty quickly after that.

Of course while all the romance is taking place we also have an arsonist on the loose and while I didn't find his POV particularly interesting, his bad guy antics do enable Sean to finally hit bottom and land Tommy in the hospital again, this time with surprisingly devastating injuries. Ironically I had just been saying to myself; Davis is taking it easy on her hero when whammy a burning building collapses on him, changing his future forever.

All in all a pretty good read although I have to admit it's my least favourite from the series. I had a tough time feeling the connection between Tommy and Shea or believing that he was ready for a HEA at 23 especially when he read like such a mama's boy. And then there was the gratuitous anal sex scene at Tommy's parents house which I suppose was meant to show the depth of their love(?) in a Lora Leigh sort of way however I found it unnecessary and weird especially considering Shea`s dark secret. A lot of times this just felt like Davis was going through the motions with stilted, fluffy dialogue and an almost repetitive story line. Still I can't wait to read Sean's conclusion to this series next in RIDE THE FIRE.

Why I Read this Book: One word: firefighters.

What I Liked: Tommy Skyler is a 23-year old firefighter at Station Five in Sugarland Tennessee. He was on his way to becoming a football hero, until the tragic death of his brother. Tommy feels like he is constantly living in his late brother's shadow and will never live up to his parents' expectations like his brother did. Tommy comes to the realization that he became a firefighter for the wrong reason and now wants to pursue his interest in becoming an Arson Investigator. One thing Tommy is sure about is the feelings he has for Shea.

Shea is a 28-year old ER nurse at the Sugarland hospital. She has a twin brother, Shane, who's on the police force. She's casually dating Forrest Prescott, the city manager because he's boring and safe. She has feelings for Tommy but won't act on them. Shea has suffered through her own set of losses and is reluctant to be in a relationship with Tommy because of that.

Tommy has no problem letting Shea know how he feels about her and what he wants. The two have only been on a couple of dates but Shea will not allow herself to get involved with him. Even though she has feelings for him, she keeps her distance. She thinks he's too young and lacks experience. She's been burnt in the past by someone like Tommy (a handsome, sexy athlete) and that's keeping her from allowing herself to have a relationship with him. However, Shea cannot keep her emotions and desires bottled up any longer when the two share a steamy kiss at a friend's wedding.

Line of Fire is full of romance and steamy love scenes with a splash of mystery and suspense. This combination had me eager to turn the page and left me wanting more. The love scenes were scorching hot!


In her bedroom, he placed her gently on her bed, then straightened. His pale blue gaze never leaving hers, he shed his shirt and slid his jeans off along with his boxer briefs, kicking them away. Shea drank in the sight of his naked body like a woman dying of thirst. Clothed, he was the sexiest man she'd ever seen. Wearing nothing except a grin, the man was a pagan god.


I was rooting for Tommy and Shea all the way. I found myself grinning ear to ear when I was reading most of this book. I, for one, love a man in uniform, especially firefighters. They are the epitome of sexy.

What I Didn't Like: The only parts of the book that didn't completely capture my interest were the narratives from William Hensley's and Joseph Hensley's point of view. William is caught in the middle of the conspiracy that takes place; Joseph is William's grandfather. I understand the need to fill the reader in with what is going on but I didn't feel engaged during these parts. Other than that,Line of Fire was a delicious read.

Overall Impression: Line of Fire is the 4th book in the Firefighters of Station Five series but can be read as a stand alone without a hitch. I have not read the first three books in the series but that didn't hinder my reading experience whatsoever. I've already added them to my wishlist and cannot wait to read them. The characters are enjoyable (and not to mention hot!) and I want to get to know each one's story. I hope that Shane, Shea's twin brother, will get a book of his own (perhaps a spin off series?).

I liked this one. The writing was crisp and clean. The dialogue was good and believable. Tommy was well written and was a pretty believable man with problems that seemed real and not exaggerated in an angsty way. He had them but the author, while showing that they were significant in his life, didn't make him stew about them until you were sick of them. He sometimes seems a bit more mature than your average 23 year old. I kept flashing on my goofy 23 year old nephew but I will admit that not all 23 year olds are cut from the same cloth. And the fact that he didn't know quite what he really wanted to do with his life was realistic.

I thought that Shea's motivations were not as strong. Her past trauma and the way she dealt with it didn't ring quite as true but it wasn't bad. I think not enough time was devoted to her thinking about it since the author made it an issue in their relationship. The correct level of wallowing around in your thought is obviously a fine line.

SOME MINOR SPOILERS

The love scenes were pretty hot. Even more so than the typically hot ones in this series. The anal scene rang a little off to me. The author made it seem so ordinary by using vague euphemisms that she might as well have made it a non anal scene. Plus, I would think that just the voyerism thing would have been enough kink at one time for the average ex rape victim. Still they were mostly very well written and earthy and the byplay about the fantasies was a bit different.

In this novel there was plenty of fire fighting which was a bit lacking in the previous book. There weren't quite as many scenes with the Stationhouse Five guys all together though. The suspense plot was okay but not real suspenseful. The author didn't totally sell me on why the bad guy wanted Shea. Had she been a substantial heiress it might have been more believable. One nice piece of property seemed rather a small thing to make him determined to marry her. Maybe if she had been heir to a huge company or something.

A good solid enjoyable addition to the series.

Throughout this novel, the fourth in Dee's The Firefighters of Station Five series, the reader will find themselves riveted to the pages, unable to let go. This is a story that has every thing I love in a good book. Endearing characters, superb continuity, strong research, smooth dialogue, and is so oh-so-sexy that you'll need to your own fire doused. It is deeply emotional and you might need a tissue for this one. The action is exciting, thrilling and edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting drama.

Can this novel be read on it's own? Definitely. But you won't want to miss the others in the series starting with Trial By Fire, Under Fire and Hidden Fire. They are all so very different yet together they build a larger picture that encompasses the dynamics of the team, which I particularly found interesting. It made this story and the others feel more than fiction but a vivid snapshot of the lives of the firefighters and those they love. I'm eagerly anticipating the next book. I can't wait. I hate waiting. - Abi
