Now POD® HD500X has even more DSP power to give you new levels of control when you’re creating your sounds. And thanks to HD technology, POD HD500X provides the sonic depth, character and touch nuance that helps you play and sound better than ever before.

  • World-class collection of HD amps gives you unmatched depth and touch response
  • Dynamic DSP and flexible routing options let you create unique sounds

  • The command center for any guitar setup including the Line 6 Dream Rig—the only system that can be virtually any rig

POD HD500X

WORLD-CLASS HD AMPS

From vintage classics to modern powerhouses, each HD amp delivers incredible sonic depth, character and touch nuance to inspire your playing—and that’s just the beginning. Customize the tone and dynamic response of each HD amp with an extensive set of deep parameters including Sag, Bias, Bias Excursion, Hum and more.

100+ STUDIO AND STOMP EFFECTS

POD HD500X gives you over 100 studio and boutique stomp effects, so you can take your sound in any direction. Emulate classic signal chains with distortions, delays, mods, filters, reverbs and more, or discover entirely new sounds by mixing and matching up to eight simultaneous effects. You also get pro-grade, assignable footswitches and a built-in, die-cast expression pedal to control your effects in real time.

MORE PROCESSING POWER, MORE CREATIVITY

With unparalleled flexibility and more processing power than anything in its class, POD HD500X lets you create the sounds you’re seeking. To start, POD provides dynamic DSP, so you can stack the effects you want wherever you want them. You can also mix and match HD amps, cabinets, mics and effects to create new sounds or dial in the tones of your favorite guitarists. With 512 presets, you’ve got virtually endless options for recalling your tones.

POD HD500X

SCULPT SOUNDS WITH DUAL SIGNAL PATHS

Legendary guitar tones are often created with more than one signal path. POD HD500X lets you create these complex, rich tones without the setup headaches of traditional dual-amp rigs. You can route your guitar through two completely independent paths—each with its own HD amp and effects chain, of course—or process two signals at once by using the 1/4” guitar, 1/4" auxiliary or XLR mic inputs. So whether you want to configure elaborate signal chains for more traditional stereo amp setups or create unique soundscapes, you've picked the right tool.

POD HD500X

ASSIGNABLE FOOTSWITCHES AND RUGGED CONSTRUCTION

With POD HD500X, you get professional-grade footswitches with bright LED rings for at-a-glance operation. You can use them to enable or bypass amps and effects, or to select presets directly. If you want to get more creative, you can assign multiple amp and effects parameters to morph between sounds (controlling up to 52 parameters in real time!). The footswitches also control the built-in 48-second looper—an instrument unto itself. The bent-metal chassis and rugged construction make POD HD500X ideal for any stage.

FLEXIBLE I/O FOR RECORDING WITH ANY DAW

POD HD500X provides all the connections you need for studio, stage and anywhere in between. You can plug in a mic to record vocals or acoustic instruments, track with your favorite HD amps, use the stereo FX loop to connect stompboxes and outboard effects, and much more. Connect to your computer via USB for multi-channel, studio-quality recording with your favorite DAW software—or tap into POD HD Edit, the free editor/librarian software that makes it easy to tweak and organize all your tones.

POD HD500X

COMMAND CENTER FOR YOUR GUITAR EXPERIENCE

It doesn’t matter if you use a guitar amp, go straight to the PA or take advantage of a next-gen full-range guitar rig—POD HD500X is the ideal command center for any guitar setup. It’s a fully assignable MIDI controller, so you can use the footswitches and expression pedal to control all kinds of external hardware and software—and it gets even better when you use POD HD500X with other Line 6 gear.

POD HD500XConnect a James Tyler® Variax® guitar and DT amp or StageSource® speaker to form the Line 6 Dream Rig—the only system that can instantly become virtually any rig. With the press of a single POD HD500X footswitch, you can recall up to 512 totally different rigs—with changes to preamp type, power amp configuration, guitar type, polyphonic alt-tuning, effects chain and more.

With StageSource L2m, you’ve got a cutting-edge, full-range, flat-response guitar system that delivers consistent tone at any volume—from studio to rehearsal, to the gig.

The HD500X is a great piece of equipment. I was looking for something to gig with and this does the job nicely ... great sounds, very "amp-like" in it's responsiveness, decent effects, etc. And the looper too, which works very nicely and makes this a fantastic value. I had previously owned a POD, the Boss GT-8, a Digitech processor, etc., but they were all subpar equipment and I still found myself lugging amps to gigs and practices. With this unit those days are behind me ...

As with all of these products, you need to be prepared to sit down with it, learn how it works and do tweaking based on your desired outcome. There are some built-in sounds that are very good, but most of them seem designed to produce a "wow" effect when somebody is demoing the floor model at the guitar store rather than sit nicely in the mix and produce real, solid tones. When you start to dig into the mass of features and tweakable functions you'll find that you can get pretty close to whatever sound you want out of this thing.

The only issue I have with it thus far is the placement of the footswitches. For me, and this is likely just a personal issue, it is not intuitive to have the effects' on/off switches at the top row and the channel switchers at the bottom row. Other than that - pretty close to "as good as it gets" here.

I've been a Line6 user for years. I bought the 500x to pair with the JTV I own. I am coming from the a long stint with the X3 Live.

Pros and Cons:
There are some really cool sounding amp models. All the channels of a SLO100 are in the box - and they all sound great. That said, the HD amps aren't the evolutionary leap forward I was expecting - it's not VHS to blu ray. And most of the great models from the X3/XT series are not present.

HD gives the user the option to seriously tweak tone - bias, sag, and cab characteristics. The manuals are only available on-line and don't offer the detail or depth needed to understand how all the tweakable parameters can affect/shape tone. The user is left to experiment with little guidance in hopes of finding a juicy tone. The factory presets are a detriment when trialing the unit and only showcase the nonmusical noises it can make. The 500x is capable of beautiful, rich musical tones but it requires the user spend hours building those tones.

There are more distortion effects than with the POD X3/XT lines, but most are harsh, flat, and unimpressive.

Unlike Gearbox, HDEdit offers much greater flexibility when building the signal chain. You can build a dual amp tone with a single set of stomp boxes and post effects. Once 2 amp models are employed, it only takes a few effects before you've used up the DSP. I built a tone with a Marshall sound, a Fender sound, a distortion box, a reverb, and when I tried to add a delay I got the "DSP exceeded" error message.

When editing the EQ effects, frequency values are expressed in percentages - very weird and counter intuitive.

The 500x really does shine when paired with a JTV. Presets contain amp, effect, and Variax data.

I really wanted to love this piece of gear, but there are two sides to it. One of them is very good and one was pretty bad. The good first, using this at home with headphones or recording it direct is a phenomenal experience. Line 6 has great software to create patches and you can change things on your laptop and get live feedback as your adjusting and adding to the chain. The models and cabinets have a good live sound and don't sound digital or like they are recorded in a vacuum. There are many, many great options to choose from in the pedals, amps and cabinets. As far as inputs, there is pretty much anything you want to plug in. The headphone jack is 1/4", so you will need an adapter if you only have headphones with a 1/8" jack. It's built very sturdily and I never felt like I was going to break it or do damage to the unit.

Now the bad. I had a really hard time dialing in good live sounds. The unit had a lot of noise when it was plugged into a mixer and many of the patches that I would make would end up being too loud to use in a live setting. So, I started using it like a pedal board and only had a few pedals with no amp sim going directly to my amp. Also, the unit lacks a lot of body in a live environment. I felt like I never had much low end and I always had a digital high end that pushed through the mix.

All in all, I would buy it again if I was just recording direct or practicing at home but I wouldn't buy it for a live application.

I am a very big fan of Line 6 going back to the AX212. I think I have had every POD and Amp they make at one time or another. I use a Spidervalve MkII as my main head but in my studio I use a PodXT going into a solid state amp. I decided to upgrade my PodXT and was torn between this unit and the Boss GT-100. Both get good reviews. I finally decided to get this unit and I was extremely disappointed. Don't get me wrong it is a nice solid unit with a tremendous amount of effects but for us old school Line 6 people it was a real let down. The Line 6 Insane amp is gone! It was a signature piece in their other units. They have some new Line 6 models but they don't stack up. Also all those wonderful Line 6 patches like "Eruption" are missing. My Spider IV has a huge selection of pre-made patches for songs from the 60's to the 2000's that are remarkable accurate so I assumed they would all be in this unit only better! Wrong! Most of the factory patches are so wild it would be hard to find songs that they fit. Again these are just my observations from owning past Line 6 products but I do not like this unit.
