Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Gonyea, founder of the Career Center on America Online and creator of two electronic resume databanks, surveys software, CD-ROM, and online resources for career exploration. A chapter on the Internet presents general background for the novice. Career-planning software, neglected in recent electronic job-hunting manuals, is also covered here. Unfortunately, source descriptions are accessed via a confusing cross-reference table; individual programs are neither described nor recommended, and product annotations are not evaluative. Gonyea's approach is confusing and contradictory. For instance, he urges job seekers to write an "Employment Value Report" proposal for each targeted employer because resumes "have no bearing on or value to the job you are now seeking," but he later promotes electronic resume banks where 21 million people can review the conventional resume. Joyce Lain Kennedy and Thomas J. Morrow's Electronic Resume Revolution (LJ 2/15/94) and Electronic Job Search Revolution (LJ 2/15/94) remain the essential purchases.
