5.0 out of 5 stars The Return of Real Rock and Roll Decadence!, September 7, 2005
By Michael Pate (Long Beach, NY) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: On the Line (Audio CD)
1.)"Running On Empty"
Classic Vain style, love it, love it, love it! Especially the "woo, hoo, hoos" in the chorus!
2.)"So Free Now"
One of my new faves and one of their best ever. Live, this song was unstoppable, "JUST ONE MORE TIME!!!"
3.)"Drag Me"
It just keeps getting better!! I LOVE THIS TRACK. It's the sleazy, sexy Vain stuff we all love. Great guitar solos.
4.) "Last Sin"
Slowing it down for the ladies, this one sounds like the "Fade" era stuff....GREAT CHORUS..."KISS THE STARS AND TOUCH THE MOON", Davy howls all over this one like a cat in heat and the wah-wah is in full effect. Sexy stuff!
5.)"On the Line"
Oh the title track! I KNEW it would be good before I heard one note! This whole tune is based on making you beg for the killer, sleazy, sexy, shake your ass and take your clothes off CHORUS!!! "SATURDAY NIGHT YOU'LL DANCE FOR ME!!!" I can't get enough of this one! This should be a strip club standard in no time!!
6.)"Turn to Sand"
Slowing it down again, this is the trippiest tune on the disc, with great guitar solos and atmospherics. A great make out number!
7.)"Lie for Love"
SUPER RIFF!!!! Turn this one up!!! This one rocks hard! Classic!
8.)"Cover Me" (just one more time)
This is another mellow track, very "Fade"-ish I would say. Nonetheless, very moody and sensual with signature Vain hooks all over it! Very cool tune.
9.)"Slave"
Oh man!!! The hits just keep on coming!! This baby is peppered with all the hookage that makes Vain amazing!! I LOVE THIS JAM!! "I'm YOUR..... SLAVE! NOW THAT'S WHAT YOU CALL ME....EYES ARE MY TEMPLE, BODY'S MY SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUL!!"Klassic!
10.)"Keep Shining On"
A great closing rocker with an upbeat message, reminds me of "Ticket Outta Here" a bit, just the vibe of it!!

This album is an easy 9 of 10, I love it and have been blasting the **** out of it! People that have never heard it, LOVE IT! Just jammed with hooks this album!! Davy's new name should be Dr. Hook! I actually had my buddy play it at this really ritzy strip bar, in specific he played "On the Line", "Drag Me" and "Slave"......perfect!!! I'm sure Davy would get a kick out of that, pretty stripper babies dancing thier hearts out to the beat and those SEXY GUITARS!!!!! Welcome back VAIN, hopefully it's for a while this time!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars On the line of duty, January 17, 2006
By kuroneko1 "kuroneko1" (Istanbul Turkey) - See all my reviews
What a great album by Dave&Co. Where were you guys for the last 5 years? This is Vain, business as usual. Album opens with a sleazy energy explosion called running on empty. Imagine a car on a dirt road, covered with dust, going at full speed, burning whiskey instead of gas. How about the melancholy storm called "turns to sand"? Dave sings it like he is down on his knees and out of tears, begging for one more chance without a shame. His melancholic vocals are at the top form, delivering all the sleazy psychadelic emotion wave, armed with the tight and gutsy performances by every single soul in the band.
"Im so free now" as he screams his lungs out, against all odds, downs and misfortunes he witnessed. He is still here, standing on the corpse of the grunge with that almost invisible., wicked smile. This band still let music do the talking without giving an inch. And after all those years, everything they do still sounds fresh, original and exciting. Sleaze is still alive and well because Dave and Co are still in town.

5.0 out of 5 stars Instant Classic, September 20, 2005
This review is from: On the Line (Audio CD)
I couldn't agree with the 1st reviewer more. There's not a disappointing track, from 1-10 this album grabs you, pulls you in,and doesn't let go. Terrific vocals from Davy Vain and melodic guitar riffs dominate this record from start to finish. Standout tracks include Slave,So Free Now,Drag Me...I could name them all. Easily this bands best effort since their classic No Respect. What a way to return to the rock scene,if you're gonna make a comeback this is the way to do it. 5 stars doesn't even do it justice. Congrats,Vain, and PLEASE come to the Twin Cities when you tour!!!

No Respect was a classic. Davy Vain's In From Out of Nowhere was mature and in my opinion just as good as No Respect. Read more
