3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm
I bought this movie just because it starred the Lance! (I'm sad!) It's never been released in theatres in the UK - that I know of, and when I watched this DVD I was left a little disappointed. It's v.cheesy and could have been so much better.

Good story line, just a shame it has such a "Teen People" feel to it.

...I must say I was impressed. Let me back up -- On the Line opened this weekend (9/21/01) in Indianapolis; Miremax chose the city as a test audience. A friend and I (20-something college graduates -- NOT pre-teen *NSYNC fanatics) had seen previews for the movie over the summer, and we both thought it looked like a cute romantic comedy. When we found out it opened in Indianapolis (we live nearby), we decided to check it out, and we both loved it! Lance Bass held his own just fine in the leading role, and the humor kept the theatre audience laughing throughout the movie. That is not to say the movie didn't have a few weaknesses. Two stand out in my mind -- in what I can only assume is Miremax's attempt to keep the rating at PG, curse words have been dubbed, and rather poorly, in my opinion...perhaps this was only done for the test audience? Also, several supporting storylines with various characters get lost in the shuffle somewhat and do not develop enough to make the audience care too much about how they are resolved. Also, as with any romantic comedy, the ending is predictable, but who doesn't want to see the "good guy" win? That being said, however, I feel as though I must emphasize that the positives of On the Line FAR outweigh the few, minor negatives. For those people who think this is a "chick flick", think again -- much of the humor has a distinct male point of view, and the romantic element is sweet without being too sappy. For those people who think this is a movie that only *NSYNC fans would like, think again -- Bass and Joey Fatone own their roles as true actors do; they are not simply members of *NSYNC trying to appeal to the pre-teen masses. From what I understand, this is Mr. Bass's first attempt at movies, and he has done a commendable job. I highly recommend this movie to anyone (and I mean ANYONE -- regardless of age)who enjoys fun little romantic comedies along the lines of My Best Friend's Wedding and While You Were Sleeping.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Feel-Good Movie, September 23, 2001
By

(REAL NAME)
On the Line is an absolutely wonderful movie. Kevin (Lance Bass) is a young guy who never seems to know what to say to any female around. He meets a girl on the L train and is so enchanted by her that he forgets to get her name and number. The rest of the movie is his attempt, along with his friends, to find her.

This movie is great. Lance is a good actor and Joey is nothing short of hilarious. They definitely prove they can do more than sing with *NSYNC. This is a sweet love story with comedy thrown in to make it very entertaining. The songs played in the movie added a nice touch. They were just as good as the movie. Joey shows real talent in singing front and center. As part of *NSYNC fans don't really get a chance to hear Joey sing solo, but he sings a nice ballad in the movie and it is wonderful. He has a great voice. So does Lance, who sings at the beginning. This isn't a musical but music does play a part in it.

*NSYNC fan or not this is definitely a great movie and one you will enjoy. It is a feel-good movie. A movie to be watched again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a really good movie!!!, March 8, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: On The Line (DVD)
I don't care what any of the negative reviews say. I bought this movie and I absolutely love it!!!!! It is just a sweet, romantic comedy that the whole family can enjoy. Out of everyone I know that has seen this movie, none of them dislike it! And let me tell you something else... it is not just little 13 year old *NSYNC "teenyboppers" that love this movie. Pretty much everyone that I told you enjoyed this movie are not fans of them. Some of the negative reviews on here are pretty harsh and that leads me to believe that they were written by people who have some kind of strange hatred for the group.Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, and Emmanuelle Chiriqui are quite good in this movie. Lance is supposed to be the shy (but sweet) Kevin who never takes chances, Joey's character Rod is a fun-loving,crazy rocker, and Abbey played by Emanuelle is the nice, sweet girl that you are rooting for Kevin to find. Please, don't let reviews about the acting throw you off from seeing this movie! The acting is good! F.Y.I. Lance even received an award for best male discovery from a special group in Hollywood!
I had to write this review because I don't want anyone to miss out on this wonderful movie and the main point I want to express is see this movie for yourself. Maybe you won't love it like I do but you definitely owe it to yourself to find out. If you like romantic comedies that make you feel good and are appropriate for the whole family, try this movie. I don't think you will regret it one bit.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Surprise!, March 5, 2002
By

This review is from: On The Line (DVD)
When I first went to see On the Line in the theaters it was definitely because of my loyalty to Lance and Joey but what a wonderful surprise when I found out how great the movie was!

A comedic love story, Lance plays Kevin Gibbons a man notorious for copping out when it comes to love. One day on the L he encounters the girl of his dreams and keeping in tradition, fails to get her name or number. Thus starts the story line as he searches all over Chicago for the mystery girl played by Emmanuelle Chriqui.

During Kevin's quest he must contend with ad campaigns, "help" provided from his three friends Rod (played by Joey Fatone), Randy the cynic(James Bulliard) and Eric the well-meaning troublemaker (GQ) in the form of sorting by dating the possible girls. Rod is a wonderfully comedic addition to the cast with a tendency for amp kicking during his band performances (although the uncontrollable body functions aren't quite as wonderful).

Added into the mix is an ex-high school classmate turned reporter determined to repay Kevin for a slight in high school, a health food obsessed (somewhat psycho) boss, his work "nemesis" Jackie who's determined Kevin won't keep her from her promotion, and Jerry Stiller as an eccentric co-worker who instills sometimes understandable words of wisdom.

This movie is a great find for anyone who loves a romantic comedy and although it is also a love story it stays away from being too corny.

4.0 out of 5 stars It was worth it to drive an hour away to see this movie!, November 7, 2001

Lance and Joey can act pretty good. And, yes I am an Nsync fan. I had to drive an hour away to see this movie and it was worth it.

Lance plays Kevin Gibbons, a shy ad exec who has had problems with talking to girls in the past. He meets a beautiful girl, Abbey on the L train in Chicago, played by Emmanuelle Chriqu (From 'Snow Day'). He forgets to get her phone number and name. The movie is predictable, but it is also enjoyable for the whole family, unlike Serendipity (which I am not seeing) which is more 'adult' in nature.

I think the movie would have earned more money in the theatre if Miramax had released this movie in more cities.

Bottom Line: Yes, Nsync fans will enjoy this, but also families can enjoy this, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars On The Line is the BEST MOVIE!!! Must Buy!, March 16, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: On The Line (DVD)
I love On the Line! Lance Bass and Joey Fatone are really great actors. When I went and saw the movie I was worried that they weren't good actors and it wouldn't be good. Why did I worry? They were fabulous! This romantic comedy is a very sweet and beautiful. In the movie Kevin (Lance) is one of the cute yet shy guys who chokes when meeting girls. He finally meets the girl of his dreams Abbey (Emanuelle)on the train, but doesn't get her name or number. He can't stop thinking about her and decides to put up signs. Thousands respond and so his friends try to help without telling Kevin. This makes matters even worse. One of Kevin's enemies even comes into the act!
It is such a sweet movie. There aren't any bad things in it so the whole family can see it together. It makes every girl want there to be a "Kevin" or a Lance :) out there looking for you!!! I wish it had been in more theaters. By being in only 1,000 theaters, practically the whole world missed out on seeing a great movie. It is very cute and funny with good actors and good music so... if you didn't get the opportunity to see the movie here is your chance! If you did see it (like me)here's your chance to see it again! Buy On the Line! You are going to want to see it over and over!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone you need to get On the Line......., October 31, 2001
By

If you enjoy movies like While You Were Sleeping and Sleepless in Seattle then you will you enjoy this movie. The script from this movie is both hilarious but not so much in a corny kind of way and it is also romantic. The story is about a guy named Kevin (Lance Bass) who is the type of guy who has made so many mistakes in his life, he always is the guy who screws up and after screwing up the chance back in high school to tell his dream girl that he liked her and never thinking he was gonna find another girl again he meets the true girl of his dreams Abby (Emmanuelle Chriqui) on the Chicago L train. Instantly they click and when him and his dream girl say goodbye he forgets two things: her name and number. Desperate to find her he searches the city determined to find her and with the help of his rock singer friend Rod (Joey Fatone) and his other friends in the end Kevin finds Abby. This is a beautiful movie and their are great cameos by the wrestler Chyna, Richie Sambora as the Mick who is a rock singer in the movie(big surprise) and Dave Foley as Lances boss at the advertising agency who plays an irritating yet funny health freak. Of course there is Jerry Stiller who plays the mail guy at Kevin's agency who is so hilarious and brilliant just like he is in all of his movie and tv roles. The songs are great in this movie by artists such as Vitamin C, Meredith Edwards and an amazing solo performance in the movie by Joey, it is a beautiful ballad and Joey really shines on this song and proves that Jc and Justin aren't the only guys of Nsync who can sing. Also look out for other cameos such as Ananda Lewis and one of the girls from Blaque. Even if you don't like Nsync you should still go and see it, there is romance, comedy, great music, something for everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad!, October 4, 2001
By A Customer
This movie was really cute. I don't think it was just made for NSYNC fans; I don't think of myself as a fan (although "Falling" is a very pretty song). I went to see it since I can't wait to see Serendipity, and they seem to have the same "looking for love" theme. I hope people don't avoid a perfectly sweet movie just because the main actors are also members of a musical group that they don't like. I won't go into detail of the plot--if you have seen the previews, you know most of the story, and you probably know how it ends. The subplot involving office politics was pretty interesting; we all know how much it sucks to have someone take credit for our ideas. Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to get together with a group of your best friends and see a movie with a happy ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars A definite feel good movie!!, December 26, 2001
By
M'Lissa Wilkins (Las Vegas, NV United States) - See all my reviews
Lance Bass and Joey Fatone of NSync star in their first romantic comedy. It was a very enjoyable movie and had the same charms of older Fred Astaire type movies. It was a simple plot of love at first sight, boy loses girl and tries to find her again. All the while his friends (similar to the three stooges) try to "help" him and eventually get him into more trouble. He must then win his dream girl back. It wasn't a shoot em up, people didn't die horrific deaths and there was no gratuatous sex scenes. It was very refreshing and very innocent. Something I think we need to get back to. I thought the cast was very well thought out, everyone seemed to fit their part. The soundtrack is pretty awesome too. And for those people who think it bombed, please keep in mind that it was only in 1,000 theaters and when compared to the big pictures that showed in more than 90,000 + theaters, they would have actually placed 4th for 1st week numbers. Not bad for a couple of boy band guys huh? Thanks Lance for the great, wholesome movie that we are so lacking today. You don't have to be 14 to enjoy. I'm 35.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful!, December 24, 2001
By
Ashley List (Lexington, Kentucky United States) - See all my reviews
I saw this movie a few days ago and thought it was absolutely delightful. (Just so you know, I am a 25 year old college graduate...not a little teeny-bopper.) I was pleasantly surprised to see how well Lance Bass and Joey Fatone could act. At first I just thought of them as "the guys from NSYNC", but not far into the movie I completely forgot who they were and got totally into their characters. Joey's character was especially funny. Anyway, it was a sweet movie, perfect for families to watch together.

***By the way, please ignore the review by "Rebecca". Every NSYNC item I have viewed tonight is full of her reviews completely bashing NSYNC. It is very possible that she has not even seen the movie. She obviously has nothing better to do with her time.

See this movie! I will definitely be adding the DVD to my collection.
