SUBLIME IMAGES.....,
By A Customer
This review is from: Linea (35 Nudes) (Hardcover)
"I love this book. I've been seeing Morey's work in magazines and on the web for years, but this was the first book I was able to get of his photography. I know the publisher went out of business, so I was happy to find this still available. The black & white pictures are quite elegant and each one is a masterpiece. "

Good things come in small packages,

I just got my copy of Linea and I found every image to be simply gorgeous. Craig Morey's work is so far above the normal nudes you see on the internet, there's no comparison. The book is one of those great intimate Japanese hardcover collections with rich reproductions, just perfect for Morey's work. This is my second book of his purchased over the net, and I was very pleasantly surprised to find this one SIGNED by the author. Highly recommended! Five stars.

I just got my copy of Linea and have looked thru it a dozen times, just in the last day. I'm a photographer so this is really a valuable book for me.I'm also a fan of Craig Morey's work, since college. I have two of his other books, but this one is the right size that I can carry it around on shoots and show to models as an example of what I'm trying to do. There's no technical info in this book ( cameras, lighting, etc) , but I knew that when I bought it. And I have other books for that info. I would recommend this book to any glamour / figure / portrait photographers, or anyone shooting people with black & white film (is anyone still doing that?). The photos are each a great study in black & white, composition and tone. The lighting is very straightforward and dramatic. Also the model poses are really classics and the perfect thing to use for self-reminders about what works and how to properly frame a figure study.

Signed copy of a wonderful book!,

This is a wonderful book, full of amazing black & white photographs. If you're a photo collector, or antiquarian book collector, this is a must-have, particularly if you collect nudes (and if you get a signed copy, as I did, consider yourself very lucky) You may be able to find it used, but it was only printed in one edition and Kornisha isn't around any more, so there probably won't be many new copies for sale, nor any reprints like this in the future. I would guess the press run on a book like this was probably under 5000 (but I don't know that for a fact)For those who don't know the background of the Japanese Kornisha Press series called "Korinsha Photo Work Books", you should at least be aware that this was the final title in the series, published just before the company went out of business. Morey's book concluded a primarily Japanese list of photographers in this series, which includes "Peace-Land" by Hasui, "Anges" by Masaaki Toyoura, and "Pleiades" by Aoi Tsutsumi. Korinsha also published Araki, and other Japanese artists, so Morey is in great company. Regarding the content of the book, there are some well-known classics from Morey's early work, and a few I've not seen elsewhere, even on the web. This is not a big coffee table book, but the duotone printing is exquisite. The photos are all nudes, mostly women with a few couples as well. There are some semi explicit shots, and a few stylized bondage photos so I would say this is not for prudes - even though there is nothing outlandish. If you're not familiar with Morey's work, this would be a good introduction.

Too Small,
By
This review is from: Linea (35 Nudes) (Hardcover)
While I think Craig Morey is an excellent photographer, I was disappointed by this book. First of all, it was much too small. Given the price and the number of plates, I had expected to be a full sized (8x10's or so) or perhaps even an oversized book. Instead, the book itself is only 5.5 x 6.5 inches, and some of the photographs are only about 3.25 x 4 inches. I had to get out my photographer's loop to see some of the details. Secondly, many of the photographs here are duplicates from his earlier book "Studio Nudes" which was a full size book. The new pieces are very nice, but their small size makes it difficult to appreciate them. Sorry Craig -- I enjoy your work, but next time make the prints larger. The small size doesn't do it justice.

I collect photography books, specializing in b&w nudes, and this is why I bought Linea. I have two of Morey's other books, but this one I was able to get signed by the photographer. (This is a great feature of Amazon, being able to deal directly with certain authors and certified sellers, so I always look for signed copies if available)This collection contains several of the model Natalie, my favorite from Morey's early work. There are some shots that are also in Studio Nudes, but I like the print quality of this book a little better. They appear to be duotone plates, very crisp and clear. Someone below said this is not a coffee table book, but I disagree. In fact it is currently right in the middle of my coffee table. It's not as big as the table, but it's an easy book for guests to pick up and a flip through, and so far everyone loves it. |
