5.0 out of 5 stars another masterful release from this incomparable musician
While I love every CD I have by Renaud Garcia-Fons I'm especially delighed with this new recording. The compositions are as intricate and lovely as ever and the musicianship all around is incredible, but because it's mostly a trio the interaction among the instruments is especially clear. How is is possible that Garcia-Fons's bass playing continues to improve...

3.0 out of 5 stars Invigorating island intellectualism
3 1/2

This notable jazz bassist continues down an exotically inundated, technically accentuated path often at the expense of personal involvement. Things do align enough, however, to showcase some phenomenally far away grooves.

The three tracks with the flamenco vocalist sent shivers up my spine - pure devotion that's completely worthy of the Rumi poetry cited as the inspiration on Garcia-Fons's excellent web site. Music of this caliber is very rare.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best 5 string Bass Player, February 25, 2011

I heard about Garcia-Fons in an interview on NPR and got hooked into hearing more.
The music of his new release (Mediterranees) was riveting. He finds the common musical thread of the music of cultures around the mediterrean basin and succedes in putting it forth in inspired compositions. Linea del Sur is his 2009 release, it blends Latin American music and the music of Spain with outstanding virtuoso playing, percusions, bandeneon, guitar, fabulous vocals and of course the ever enthralling bass of Renaud Garcia-Fons. I haven't been excited by a jazz player/composer like Renaud in more than a decade! I very highly recommend Linea del Sur.
