3.0 out of 5 stars Lineage II doesn't stand up to Guild Wars
As a Guild Wars veteran I was looking for a change in scenery, but what I found was a reason to stay with GW. The controls are clunky and awkward, the quests lacked the challenge I have become accustomed to in GW. I had hoped that choosing a game from Anet NCSoft that the transition would be smooth, the quest different and challenging, and something more since I would be...

My husband and I have been playing this game hardcore for over two years and were still going strong. Ive read a lot of the feedback and i am truly amazed at all the bad reviews. The graphics in this game the best on the web so far. Games like WO, although fun to play (ive tried it), seem to cartoonish for me. Lineage 2 is filled with beautiful graphics and worlds that keep you visualy stunned for years. The game play is wonderful as well. Like all other online games there are botters and people who insist on being rude, but thats just a small part of the life of an online role playing game. There are also wonderful friends to be made and a world of information to learn and explore. The grind is tough at higher lvls and takes patience, but the friends you make and the skills you earn are well worht the uphill climb. The mask that comes with this version of the game is a nice bonus, and the lolipop, although a bit silly, turns you into a pig and makes for fun conversations while waiting for a seige to start or anything else to pass the time for an event. I enjoy this game emensly and if your a gamer, at least give the trial a try despite anyones opinions...even mine :).

This is a very fun game and I'm glad to try it out. The package got here when they say it would so I know when to expect it. The service is easy and I look forward to using it again when I need to. That is all I have to say and to anyone who is thinking about this game, try it out and see if you like it. I really recommended this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addicting Game, March 17, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Lineage II - 4th Anniversary (CD-ROM)
I have played L2 for almost 4 years now, and still continue to play. I've played Guild Wars, WoW, and a few other MMOs and none of them hold a torch to Lineage 2. A lot of the bad reviews are by people who never made it out of the starter towns in a game that is has an established player base. Of course you are not going to have fun in a game if you do not get past level 10, and do not interact with the end-game content/players. Lineage 2 is NOT about quests, and really not about leveling either.

1. Player vs. Player (PVP)
Lineage 2 is about human interaction (with clanmates and enemies) and politics. The game features an open PvP system where you can attack/be attacked at any point in time. I still get an adrenaline rush from every PvP battle even though I've been in thousands of battles. Of course each skirmish has consequences politically, as it can easily start wars between clans.

Lineage 2 has Castle Sieges & Territory Wars every two weeks where clans compete for control of Castles and Wards, respectively. Castles allow a clan to earn revenue from the NPC tax system, and the Wards give stat boosts to the owning clan. It is not unusual to 500-700 people participating in these events across the entire server.

2. New Player Friendly
Due to the changes that have been made to the game in the past year, the grind of the game has been lessened and been geared towards helping newer players advances quickly to catch up to experienced players. They following new player oriented mechanics have been introduced into the game since release:

-Shadow Weapons: Weapons that you obtain for free by completeing a class change, but disappear after a set amount of time.
-Common Items: Items that do not give any bonuses but are dropped at a high rate than a regular weapon, cost a fraction (1/20th) in town compared to the normal version.
-Newbie Buffs: They have also introduced "Newbie Buffs" that last one hour and are available to level 75, which reduces the need to always have a party.
-Buff Herbs: Some of the monsters drop herbs which give a 5min buff while out hunting.
-Vitality: This has been the greatest improvement to the game. Vitality is a bonus to your character that boosts the amount of experience points earned for each kill. There are 4 levels, and when maxed out gives you a 300% bonus. As you kill you slowly use up your Vitality, and when you are in town and logged off you slowly gain vitality. This helps casual players (1-2hours/day) catch up to people who play for extended periods of time as they will always be leveling with Vitality lvl 4 & 3.
3. Problems
Yes the game has bots, but all games have bots. However, NCSoft has gone a crusade as of late to attempt to remove the bots, and have been very successful at controlling the bot problem.

If you are looking for a game where you cannot reach the max level in a week (or even a year) and want to fight people beyond an arena, I highly suggest Lineage 2.

As a Guild Wars veteran I was looking for a change in scenery, but what I found was a reason to stay with GW. The controls are clunky and awkward, the quests lacked the challenge I have become accustomed to in GW. I had hoped that choosing a game from Anet NCSoft that the transition would be smooth, the quest different and challenging, and something more since I would be going from a free-to-play to a pay-to-play scenrio. I am back with Guild Wars not understanding why I would make a monthly payment to a lesser game in all facets than Guild Wars.

Awesome pvp mmorpg.

Its now 4 years old and STILL has the best graphics and the most beautiful 3d modelling and art out of all mmorpgs.

Constantly updated content and now easier than ever for all character classes to level.

I would still play this game due to graphics however after a while it became a grind fest with some of the end game items taking many hours and time. It also has a monthly fee. It is good for a person who enjoys PVP

NCSoft is notorious for their lack of support.
There are many cheaters (bots, gold buyers/sellers, hackers) in the game but NCSoft doesn't care
because they wan't to lose any money by banning their accounts.
It really ruins the game. Also, the game is all about grinding.
It is pure hardcore grinding from the very start and the quests are horrible.
Don't waste your money and time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it. No, I am not a troll, just an honest gamer., May 11, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Lineage II - 4th Anniversary (CD-ROM)
When I decided to try something that was still fantasy, but new, I chose to leave WOW and to give Lineage 2 a try.

Let me start by saying that I am a veteran player of over 5-6 MMORPG games and have been playing RPG's all of my life. I will rate this game on a 1 (worst) - 10 (amazing) scale.

Graphics: 7

From playing NC soft's Guild Wars for over 2 years, I expected the graphics in Lineage 2 to be way better being that it was a pay to play type of game. Man, was I wrong! The graphics on Guild Wars smokes Lineage 2 hands down. While playing Lineage 2, the appearance of the game seemed very stale and boring. There were no vibrant colors, just a plain field to grind non-colorful mobs on. Granted, I did not get very far in my two days of play, but going on past two days seem more like suffering than fun play.

Sound / Music: 5

Again, I was very impressed with the music and sound of Guild Wars and other titles like WOW. The combat sounds were nice in L2, but the music was not catchy for me. Also, I thought there was a problem with the game because there was no sound at the log in screen after installing it. I found the option and turned the in - game volume up shortly after logging in.

Character Movement: 2

This is a point and click to move game in which I prefer "WASD" control better. The control seemed awkward which made it hard to attack targets, control your character, etc. There is no jumping on this game so you are always having to manuver around stones, logs, etc. I played as a dark elf in which they run like they are leaning forward and almost touching the ground. The effect is sorta cheesy.

Fun Factor: 2

I have to say that there was nothing really remarkably fun about this game. It is just a bunch of grinding from the start and quests are poorly implemented. I made it from lvl 1-10 in a short amount of time, but it was a waste of my money because I did not have fun. I will not be subscribing to this game after my 60 days are up.

Overall rating : 4

While the graphics were ok, the sound, character movement and actual fun were horrible. For people that are still playing this game and think it is great, please read Plato's Myth of the Cave and go play the World of Warcraft, Eve, AOC ore something that is remotely fun. If you are a serious gamer, please do not waste your money on this game. I made that mistake for you. What really makes me sad is that Aion is going to be based on Lineage 2 gameplay.
