About the Actor
One of the nations most highly-respected defensive coordinators, Sandusky recently retired from Penn State, where he was position coach for linebackers since returning to his alma mater as an assistant coach in 1969. Sanduskys game plans have been hailed in both of the Nittany Lions national championship victories. In the 1983 Sugar Bowl, Penn State held Georgias Herschel Walker to just 3.6 yards per carry to key the 27-23 victory and give the Nittany Lions the 1982 national title. At the 1987 Fiesta Bowl, Sanduskys defenders intercepted five Vinnie Testaverde passes and held the Heisman Trophy winner without a touchdown pass for the only time that season to defeat the Hurricanes, 14-10, and again capture the national title.
Sandusky has coached nine All-America linebackers, most notably Jack Ham (1970), Shane Conlan (1985-86), Andre Collins (1989) and LaVar Arrington (1998) in his 32 years at the school.
