Qiu Xiaolong is a very good mystery writer. His plots are studded with pieces of contemporary information about the current state of affairs within that country. Unfortunately, for me, his poetry, while interesting in some ways, lacks the intensity and passion of his stories. This is not to say that they are without merit. I just feel that they do not come up to the standard set by his other writing. For someone interested in contemporary Chinese poetry, they are worth some time.
