Guy's succinct, to the point, narratives, punctuated by an extrememely realistic, believable dialogue style, flesh out a story that can readily transport any serious reader to the early 70s world of the cocaine underculture just before and during the awful mockery of crack cocaine distribution and usage. With even a modicum of ability to "read between the lines" the average reader can enter the story of Joey Panella, hero, or infidel, and his harsh cutting edge life of love, strife, friendships, and ultimate pursuit of happiness. His is a story which transcends simple morality, while refusing to abandon the gutter from which it was spawned. Somehow, the story transcends the subject material, the characters rise above their station, and the plot takes on a life of its own. Kudos to the author, Gup P. Giovanello, and may he know we anticipate his next literary work as ambitious an undertaking as this reader has heard fleshed out orally in many years...he may yet overtake the famed Puzo in illustrating the Mafioso code to a naive yet curious world. Bravo! Now, please, producers, take note, bring on the film.
