5.0 out of 5 stars Chronic Future is awesome!!!!
I have known about this band for about 8 yrs now. Chronic Future had a hit on the radio here in Arizona back in '96/'97, when the bandmembers were only 13 and 14 yrs old. I thought they were pretty cool. I gave them credit for doing there thing at such a young age. But Now its 2004 and the band members are all grown up, and they have improved so much, its amazing...

3.0 out of 5 stars nothing revolutionary
i first heard chroni future on the mvp baseball 2004 soundtrack, and "time and time again" was a pleasing first single. the rest of the album is a bit of a letdown; the sound is similar to 311, but with heavier guitar and screaming. tracks like world keeps spinning, new york ny, wicked games and eyes wide open are what keep me coming back to this album, but the rest of...

I thought they were pretty cool. I gave them credit for doing there thing at such a young age. But Now its 2004 and the band members are all grown up, and they have improved so much, its amazing! After hearing 'Lines In My Face' I really did fall in love with this band. This album is awesome!!!! Songs like 'Shellshocked', 'Thank You', and 'Say Goodbye' are just amazing beautiful music. There is no bad song on the record. I guess you can put the 'rap/rock' label on Chronic Future, but don't let that scare you away. They still manage to have their own unique sound. And they have been doing there thing before 'rap/rock' even was mainstream.
Go out and buy "Lines In My Face"!!!!! Chronic Future RULES!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A formulaic album....but it still works??!, August 4, 2004

Chronic future = the best of pop-punk, modern rock, and rap/rock all in one package.

When I saw the video for time and time again, the video and the song itself had an amazing social message, along with a rap/rock style I had never heard before. I had to check out this bands website. 2 days later, I bought this CD and even though it sounds like a formulaic pop-punk/rock type album, it is still a bold enough CD coming from a band bold enough to finally to do something a bit different.

This group and Linkin Park seem to be the only rock bands out there that really push to blend branches of rap and modern rock together, but they are not a cliche type of rap/rock, they are finally different. A cliche version of rap/rock would be something like Limp Bizkit, which this band (or linkin park for that matter) are not. Yes, you cannot compare them 100% to LP but both bands have the same idea of how they blend music. This group sounds like a pop-rock/modern rock band like Simple Plan, at first kind of formulaic. But then you hear the lead vocalist rap and you think WHAT IS THIS? It's finally a bold type of rap/rock, and amazing songs like "time and time again," "stop pretending," and "New York, NY," are 3 tracks on this CD that show why. If it weren't for the Time and Time again as their single, I probably wouldnt have looked into them much b/c I would have thought that they are a cliche type of band. They may be on a major record label, but they are far from formulaic, even though they can trick you to think it is. Every song packs the energy of a single, which is very hard to find in an album.

Also, if you don't believe me that these guys are truly talented, go on chronic future's website, and look for the pop up showcasing their old EP. The lead rapper shines on 2 songs, not on this current CD, "jumping ship," and "lines in my face."
The lead rapper, whoever he is, has his own style of underground rapping in those 2 songs, it is amazing.

I hate how everyone just bags on talented Musicians. ok i had to get that out. I bought this cd When i heard time and time again on MVP Baseball 2004 and then i saw them in concert here in Arizona were they are from and let me tell you.. These guys are energetic as you can get. They put on such a good show that put chills down my back. Now I give the cd a 4 because most of the cd has good upbeat songs that are catchy and are fun to listen too. some of my favorites are shellshocked, Stop pretending, and Static on the Radio. Im a fan of Hawthorne Heights and more emo/screamo sound but i alos like old punk like Rancid, Lagwagon, Bouncing Souls and more but Chronic Future has a unique sound that i just like. Dont rag on these guys they work their asses off to get to were they are now and they are definately bringing in more money than u guys that rag on them. ok i recomend people to go buy this cd

5.0 out of 5 stars Chronic Complainers...Cry Me A River, May 19, 2005

First off, I'd like to comment on the guy's statement below. Is it you hate the band and their music or you hate the fact your girlfriend likes them? I sense a little jealousy there. She obviously picks out better cd's than you.

If I knew how to get my hands on Chronic's older stuff you bet I would! C.F. does a great job of displaying talents and emotion, key ingredients to making the "perfect" cd. I never find a song of their's boring or unoriginal. They are true artist!

I first heard this band just searching through BMG. I realized the rapper sounded alot like Eminem(listen to track 2). He makes and breaks the band I hate to say, at least, he makes them stand out beyond other punk bands. Overall, he does a good job, deserves more time with the mic, and should expand his talents. Come on man, eminem's sound with someone other than eminem is priceless mix in rock music it's dYnO-mIte! I can imagine these guys coming back with an even stronger cd. They seem without limitations or lack of creativity.

With C.F. you really get your moneys worth! This is one of few bands out there that have 2 lead singers!? Imagine how cool that sounds! Two totally different styles that work together. A bigtime stand out cd that is everything I ever expected it to be and everything I claim it is!

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid, and undefinable., March 3, 2005

This review is from: Lines in My Face (Audio CD)
I first heard these guys when they opened for Papa Roack in 2004. I had heard some samples of their music, and honestly wasn't very impressed. That turned out to be nothing more than one of those situations where you need to hear more than 30 second sound clips to get an idea of what the band is all about. These guys unquestionably put on one of the greatest live shows I have ever seen, and are one of the few bands still out there that actually make fun music and put on fun shows. And after purchasing this album and giving it just one spin (and countless ones since then), I realized that these guys get it done in the studio just as well as they do on the stage.

How do you describe this music? Is it punk rock? Is it modern rock? Pop rock? Rap rock? I don't know quite honestly, and that is what makes it great. It truly is unlike anything you will hear on the radio today. Sure, you might say, "Well Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit rap and they suck." And you would be right, my friend. However, this is not derivative, pointlessly angry nu-metal. This is a guy who can actually rap and do it intelligently, doing it to guys who can play their instruments and sound good without down tuning them to try and sound heavy. No, these guys are neither hard nor heavy. They do, however, rock, and do a mighty fine job of it.

The album is admittedly a bit formulaic. Less heavy verse with rapping, into heavier chorus with sung vocals, and repeat. Sure, it's not like this all time, but this is the predominant formula. But, it works. And if it ain't broke, why fix it? Chances are you might have heard the lead single off the album, "Time and Time Again." This song is a pretty good representation on the album as a whole, yet each song manages to carry an identity of its own. "Shellshocked" and "New York, NY" are too of the more emotional (maybe just a tad emo, but not much really) songs, the first of which goes through a sedate verse into a rocking chorus. "Eyes Wide Open" and "Wicked Games" are the two songs which seem to be most directed toward appealing to the general rock radio crowd, as they don't really possess as many of the feature that help the band separate themselves from other groups. That's not to say they are completely derivative though; honestly "Wicked Games" doesn't do much for me, but "Eyes Wide Open" is one of the best on the album and still has that unique sound to it. The all-out rocker on the album, and in my opinion the best song, would be "Apology for Non-Symmetry," which kicks off with a truly awesome riff, goes into a quickly rapped verse, a soaring chorus and then just continues through the rest of the song in similar greatness. Just listen to the freaking thing if that doesn't suffice.

This band really isn't like anything you hear on the radio today. Before you dismiss all rap/rock as the bastard child of two completely separate genres, give these guys a listen. I guarantee you they will make you think twice about that stereotype. And by the way, you should always know to never take anyone seriously who insists on listing a list of bands they listen to that supposedly makes their musical tastes superior to your own. We're reviewing Chronic Future here, not Fugazi and whatever other bands that are so superior in your eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting., January 17, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Lines in My Face (Audio CD)
Welcome to Chronic Future's new album. If you're not familiar with their older work, you'll find this interesting, and hopefully entertaining. Their older work was a pop-rock-rap hybrid that even got misfiled by some people on Kazaa as 311 music. It was pop-y enough to get you to like it, but punk-y enough to stand a good distance out from others.

Now then, if you're familiar with their older work, only one question will show up: Why does Mike Busse sound like Eminem all of a sudden? Granted, the background music is much better than Eminem's, and these songs have real choruses to boot, but the semblance is unmistakable this time around.

You'll really notice this as Track 2, "World Keeps Spinning" starts. But fortunately, before you're a minute into the song, the song reassures you with another of Chronic Future's addictive choruses.

You can sample Time and Time Again from any number of sites (especially sites sharing the weird-interesting music video). Time and Time Again is a decent representative sample.

To be honest, there's a lot of content here. If you mixed the best of 90s Alternative Rock with Eminem-ish rap and the old Chronic Future, you might have some idea of the album content.

The question is not whether the material is good--the question is whether you're comfortable with the way it's all mixed together. Being a Chronic Future veteran who owns both Chronic and Four Elements, I'm used to it by now. It might take you a second or two, but you should be able to get accustomed to it.

This is definitely an album to nod your head to.
