5.0 out of 5 stars Two fantastic books, poorly formatted, February 28, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you are unsure if you'll like the series as a whole or if you should start reading them, go read the reviews for Gardens of the Moon and Deadhouse Gates. Those are the two books contained within. Individually, GOTM is a 4-5 star book, and deadhouse gates a firm 5 star.

This review, however, is mainly focused on the collection.

The story contained within mean it would be disingenuous to give anything but a 5 star review. I was, however, extremely disappointed by this version.

The pricing is fantastic, and the flaws are almost certainly present in the individual titles, so I would say that if you want the Malazan books in ebook format, this collection is the way to go. However the editing was atrocious.

There were several spelling mistakes throughout both books. One of the most annoying was the character "Toc the Younger", who was often referred to as "Toe the Younger" or just "Toe". If this had been an amateur scan downloaded from a dodgy website that would have been an understandable, acceptable scanning error that wasn't picked up by spellcheck. However, when we're talking about a major ebook release from one of the leading publishing houses, for one of the leaders in the fantasy genre, it quite simply isn't acceptable. Were there no interns to sit down for a couple of days manually reading through for such errors? The book would have never gone to print in that state, so why is it acceptable to submit it to Amazon in such a condition?

So I will strongly recommend the book. However, I'd also suggest that the publishers should take a long look at themselves and ask what benefits their copy holds over the less than legitimate versions. If I wanted a cheaply, quickly made scan of the books then I could have done so myself with my own paperback versions.

5.0 out of 5 stars And what a sizzling collection it is ..... wonderfull, March 18, 2002

Francesca Leeman a young, and of course, beautifull and sexually actice, rents a cottage in a small English town to finish writing a book. Not being a shrinking violet she hooks up with one of the local lads, Chris, who makes sure her afternoons are not wasted .......

So Chris and Francesca get it on in the remote grardens of what appears to be a large abandoned estate only to be spied upon by Alicia the elderly, but also beautifull, widdow of a man of the world. Alicia likes what she sees and sends her hunk of a chauffeur, (WOW had to check spelling on that one) Catz, to set up a meeting where Alicia details her plans to sell her husbands erotic collection of artifacts and write a book on the lives and loves of Alica and her now dead husband.....

We soon learn that Catz does more than drive the car, and by the sounds of it does it well to anyone that stands still for more than a minute ......

Pound for pound the there are more erotic sex scenes in this book than most, and, amazing, the author manages to keep the stroy cohesive and interesting rather than making us feel we are sittling helplessy watching while sitting on a sex shopping cart .....

Sarah Fisher, the author, it seems cut her teeth in the Crimea series of erotic books and hopefully now has hit the big times with Black Lace probably her first with this publisher .... I really liked this book and look foreward to reading more .....

4.0 out of 5 stars We need pictures!!!, February 6, 2001
By A Customer
This was an interesting read, but I was distracted throughout. As an artist and erotic art collector I could not quite get past not really knowing what art looked like. I know I'm being greedy but it was so very hard to concentrat on the story when I kept thinking about the art. The descriptions were good, but how I long for the art itself! I know these kind of colections exist, and I wish I could get my hands on them! This book is nice for the what if possabilities. Most of us will never live out these fantasies, so the next best thing is to live them in a well written Black Lace.
