Amazon.com Product Description

The "16" in the TravelMate 16's name isn't just a model number. Rather, it represents the impressive number of languages handled by the compact electronic translator. Need to translate a phrase from English to German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Greek, Hebrew, Arabic, Dutch, Russian, Swedish, Norwegian, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean? Look no further than the TravelMate 16. The device draws from a database of more than 320,000 words and 32,000 useful phrases, covering everything from common business questions to more travel-specific queries on restaurant and hotel locations. At the same time, it offers eight currency and metric converters--including converters for clothing and shoe size--so you won't feel uninformed while shoe shopping in Paris.

Travelers will also appreciate the TravelMate 16's powerful databank, which lets you store all of your appointments, telephone numbers, addresses, and memos for later recall. The 32k databank is a must whether you're simply sending postcards to friends or following a comprehensive business itinerary. And you can rest assured that you'll make that early morning train thanks to the world clock--with times in more than 200 cities--and the highly accurate alarm.

Additional features include a 12-digit talking calculator, an easy-to-use QWERTY keyboard, a two-line dot-matrix display, an automatic power off function that preserves battery power, and an adjustable contrast. All this in a compact chassis that measures a mere 5 by 0.5 by 3.25 inches (W x H x D) when closed and fits easily in a shirt pocket or purse. The unit, which is powered by a trio of CR-2032 batteries, carries a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

In between. - I was using it for German. The vocabulary is
is small despite the ad claims. It only has the
root words.
It would be much better to have it do one language
well than 16 poorly. Obviously, it would have
better if it worked more than 2 days too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lingo TR-1650 Travel Mate 16 Language Translator Review, March 3, 2008
This review is from: Lingo TravelMate Translator (TR-1650) (Office Product)
The translation is horrible. I am fluent in English and Spanish and out of 10 words, only 2 were correctly translated.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Possibilities, September 28, 2008
This review is from: Lingo TravelMate Translator (TR-1650) (Office Product)
I bought this translator for a trip to Greece. I wanted an electronic translator instead of a phrase book for convenience and weight limitations in the carry-on. This was one of the few translators, and most reasonably priced, that included Greek in their language options. I liked that the Greek and Cyrillic alphabets were displayed in the responses for Greek and Russian - not just English pronunciations. I did not unfortunately, use the language translator very much - it was easier to speak English when possible (and it was usually possible). It has several additional features that make the purchase worthwhile - a world time clock, calculator, telephone directory, and conversion calculator which was very handy when dealing in the metric system. I wouldn't use this device without prior knowledge of the language, you shouldn't assume every response is correct. There are enough extras on the translator to make it a handy assistant if you know how to use it.
