Book Description

Girl meets boy, falls in love, becomes engaged, and walks down the aisle. Oh, if only life were that simple. When an Immortal girl meets a Mortal boy, life is a little more complicated.

When Charity accepted Lincoln's marriage proposal, she thought they could handle anything that came their way... Link's newly acquired lust for blood became the first problem to tackle... saying "I do" came next.

Is a no fuss wedding in Las Vegas too much to ask? It seems so when a Witch from their past is not what she seems, mortal friends from Telluride become thorns in their sides, and staying alive is harder than Charity has ever imagined it would be. What is an Immortal girl to do?

The Immortal Ones - 2 time winner of the Paranormal Romance Guild Reviewer's Choice Award for BEST YA SERIES (2012 & 2013).

5.0 out of 5 stars Viva Las Vegas :) April 1, 2011

S.L. Baum you have done it again with My Link in Time. Another great read about Charity and her "Family"! I won't give away anything in this review. I waited forever for this second book to come out and that wait paid off with a well written continuation of Charity and Links story. From the mountains of Telluride to the wildness of Vegas, this author captured it all in her writings. With her well written descriptions of Vegas I felt I could hear the Slots ringing in the background. I loved finally knowing about Catherine, and I am anxiously going to wait and hope that there is another Immortals series coming out because you know we have to find out more on what Charity and Link are up to as well as Marcus and his abilities. Loved how this book had all the characters interacting throughout the whole thing rather than just a few pages of them in it. And oh my Charity and Summer's friend..that girl just makes me want to smack some sense into her! :) What would be even better is knowing Lulachs story..its a vampire thing :) The only other thing left to say is I wanted more more more. It was over way to fast!!!! Thank you S.L. Baum for another great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable! July 26, 2011

I'm sorry, this won't be a thorough review. I'd just like to share that after I read the first book of The Immortal Ones, I immediately downloaded and began this one. And I loved it just as much. I really enjoyed the action, the strength of the main character, and the deviation from other books in this genre. In addition, this author has now shown me how many amazing books there are to explore in the independently-published world and I am having a blast seeking them out. You won't regret reading this. In fact, I'm not sure how you could read the first book and not jump right into this!

Thank you, SL Baum!

4.0 out of 5 stars My Link in Time June 1, 2011

I'm breezing through my summer reads and loving every minute of it. I read the first book and then quickly had to read the second book which brings me to My Link in Time. I have always been fascinated by the idea of immortals. I was a fan of the Highlander TV series/movies. I loved Cate Tiernan's Immortal Beloved and now I am loving this series about Charity and her family. Being that Charity and her family are immortal their back story has that aspect of historical fiction. In the first book we learn about Charity and James. This book gives us the back story of Catherine. Her story brings into play a new character, Elizabeth. Charity and Link are preparing for their wedding in Vegas and everything seems to be falling into place but all good stories have conflict and this one surely does. Charity's friend Dee has interrupted Charity's Vegas get away with a little drama of her own. Then Elizabeth,an old friend of Catherine's, is not as friendly as everyone thinks. She has her own agenda that includes Marcus and Charity. The action never ends and you will find yourself getting through this in one sitting. I love these characters. Each one is well written and very likable. As each page is turned the reader learns more and more about each character. We may learn a power they have or what happened in their past or their deep thoughts and feelings. This book is layered with wonderful characters that keep this story moving in the right directions and leaves the reader wanting more of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Link in Time April 23, 2011

If you told me before I got my Kindle that soon I'd be reading YA paranormal books and enjoying them, I'd have laughed in your face. Glittery vampires aren't my thing. But with my Kindle I found myself making a conscious effort in branching out, trying genres I'd avoided in the past. What I found is I did enjoy some of those books I wouldn't have given a second glance in the bookstore. This series has been among my favorites in this genre. Analyzing why has been an interesting exercise.

My first thought was, "because it's a light read." But is it really? Yes, the target audience is less than half my age, but their reading ability isn't that much different. Maybe it is lighter than books full of adult themes and language? For language, that would be true. However, Charity and her extended family deal with plenty of life and death situations; Much more serious than my typical day. Yet, because these are in the realm of fantasy, I think it's easy to feel the intensity (a good read needs some conflict) without it feeling as real as a storyline that could actually happen in real life. But unlike the actual fantasy genre paranormal characters are often enough like me and operating in the same world as I am, so I can more easily relate to their stories.

The reasons I like this series, specifically, are easier to nail down. The character of Charity is very likeable. Her unique situation of being "older and wiser" yet having to fit in with the high school crowd is an interesting conflict. The dichotomy between having concerns that are often much different than her apparent peers and sometimes not provides plenty of interesting situations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun read
Fun read. The series is good, just a little reminiscent of the Twilight series. That being said you might think it's predictable, but there are unexpected twists ,

More About the Author

I live in a house with 1 man, 3 kiddos, 3 dogs, and 2 cats... it is a busy place around here. So when I am not feeding an animal, or a person, or driving a child to school, an appointment, or a music lesson, I sit down with my laptop in hand and try to get the stories out of my head. I have had a love of sci-fi since I was a kid... watching Star Trek with my father. I am such a junky for action packed sci-fi movies to this day... thanks Dad! That love started to include the supernatural/paranormal as I reached my teens. I will always thank Anne Rice and Lestat for introducing me to a whole new genre... and my love vampire fiction was born. When I began writing, I didn't even consider the YA paranormal genre. I started two previous projects that I couldn't finish, and I never knew why. But, when I started to write - A Chance for Charity (The Immortal Ones) - the story poured out of me and I loved every minute of the writing process! I still have those other stories, and someday I plan to go back and finish them.

I am a crafter by nature! This probably also explains my love of writing - it is in the creative family. I scrapbook, sew, bead, etc... I love to create. I have a room in my home dedicated to crafts. Paper, ribbons, stickers, die-cuts, there is a whole mess of supplies! At one time I was in the handcrafted wedding/party invitation business. You should see my kiddos' birthday invitations!

My other love is baking, although I don't do a ton of it. Because if I bake it, then I want to eat it! Cookie creation is a fun process. I like to see how many yummy ingredients I can cram into a recipe. So far, my favorite cookie is an oatmeal, coconut, chocolate chip, toffee bit cookie - YUM! You can find that recipe on my blog :)
