5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good!, August 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: How to Find a Job on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and Other Social Networks (Paperback)
I conciser myself pretty internet saavy so when I saw this book I thought I would just download a sample to my Kindle, take a peek, then delete it. What could it possibly teach me that I don't already know?

The answer is: quite a bit.

While this book deals with several forms of social networking, I concentrated on the chapters about LinkedIn. This was a network that I had not tapped into and I didn't realize how powerful it was. When I started the book I had two contacts which were basically friends. As I went through each chapter I followed the suggestions until I had a very good profile. Then I started to look around and realized that there were quite a few people I could connect to. Now my network is growing and since I am just starting out in the job market I got onto LinkedIn just in time. I think it will make a very big difference. I did a Google search of my name and my LinkedIn profile was ranked number two. Number one was my personal website. When people want to find references or information on me, my LinkedIn profile will be one of the first places they go. Now that I have control over it, I will make sure I made the best first impression.

I read a bit about Facebook and decided to keep that site strictly for personal use, but I am now exploring Twitter and I can see how this can really work for me as well. One week ago I would have scoffed at the thought of Twitter as a job tool. Now I know better.

Worth the money. Highly recommended.

"HOW TO FIND A JOB on LINKEDIN, FACEBOOK, TWITTER, MySPACE" is a tremendous book that is not only timely, but practical too because it shows you the nuts and bolts of each major social network of the title and how you can make the most of these networks to get a job. Today, social networking is big and keeps on growing. Here, the authors (Brad & Deb) take you by the hand to let you know about each network and how to make the most of it and potentially find a job. This book has ten chapters, and so I am blogging about this book on my website Great Documents Dot Net ([...]). 5.0 out of 5 stars Timing is everything, and there has never been a better time for this book to be read!, October 15, 2009
This review is from: How to Find a Job on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and Other Social Networks (Paperback)
Testament to just how many social networking sites seem to have popped up in the last few years, Brad and Debra Schepp, husband and wife and co-authors of 18 other books aptly titled their latest book "How to Find a Job on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and Other Social Networks".

The 256 page book could not have come out at a better time, given the economy, and the relevance to 9.8% of Americans (and counting).

Taking from the skills undoubtedly sharpened over the last 18 books they wrote, Brad and Debra take a step by step, detailed look into how one can harness the power of social networking specifically to land a job or freelance work.

The book is broken into wisely chosen sections that allow for easy review at a later date, and feature dozens and dozens of snapshots of the interfaces on the various social networks, making it easy for anyone, even tech illiterates, to follow.

Each social networking site covered has the following pieces of information:

* What is the site?
* How do I setup a profile on the site?
* What can the site do for me?
* What niche uses are there for the site?

To provide a bunch of perspectives on that last question, the book integrates a lot more outside advice than you usually find in "how to" books, which I found refreshing.

In addition to the instructive content of the book, Brad and Debra interviewed a dozen or so people who have found success through LinkedIN, Twitter, and so on. I consider myself very fortunate to have been selected among that group, and I offered advice on using LinkedIN to accomplish everything from targeting prospects for sales, all the way to sharing your blog with the 35 million users on the site for massive exposure.

All in all, I think that anyone who has been out of the job search market in a long time, or just got out of college and is looking to start their career will find this book clear, interesting, and encouraging during a time when many people need it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Valuable info, July 2, 2010
This review is from: How to Find a Job on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and Other Social Networks (Paperback)
A really good walk through on LinkedIn and social media in general. It's practical in it's advice and brings together many schools of thought on this rapidly expanding communication medium.

Don't be fooled by it's title, this is way more than just a job finding tool. It's your quick guide to effectively use social networks for a wide range of objectives.

This book delivered what it said it would. It is a good intro to LinkedIn with networking tips on how to find a job as well as get ahead in your current one. It also provides tips on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. It's a worthwhile read, but don't expect magic... the authors give you the fishing pole, not the fish.

5.0 out of 5 stars The game has changed. Brad & Deb wrote the play ook., October 22, 2009
By
moisheberl (Milwaukee, WI) - See all my reviews
Yes, the game we all call "Finding a Job" has changed, and I'm thrilled that Brad & Deb Schepp have written the definitive playbook on how to come out a winner. I'm old enough to remember when Timothy Leary told us to TURN ON, TUNE IN and DROP OUT. In their new book, Brad & Deb present vignettes of real individuals who were TURNED ON (by the potential of social networks), TUNED IN (to Twitter, LinkedIn FaceBook and other social networks), and FOUND OUT (about otherwise unadvertised job opportunities). Like a good coach, Brad & Deb present step-by-step guidance on how to use social networking to your best advantage when navigating the playing field. Just for a minute, pretend their book is the ball. Pick it up and run with it.

This review is from: How to Find a Job on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and Other Social Networks (Paperback)
This book really gets to the heart of the networking matter. This book works! I have used this book in various seminars and have really helped those who tend to be shy network in a very postive and rapid manner using the tools in this book. For those of you who are introverts, this book guides you to network in your "comfort zone".

A must read for those of you who have difficulty networking!

This review is from: How to Find a Job on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and Other Social Networks (Paperback)
Although information on the internet moves at the speed of light, leaving printed material somewhat dated after only a few weeks, I found the overall concepts, ideas, and suggestions to be be well worth the cost of the book. I have put many of them into practice and have found that the general response I am getting is valuable to me as a person seeking a career advancement, but can readily see the positive aspects going forward after I am employed.
Highly recommended to anyone who wants to succeed by using personal and professional networking.
