3.0 out of 5 stars DUBBED !
I am a fan of Linkin Park but this concert was obviously dubbed over. The sound is awsome but the visual does not seem in sync with the sound. My advice is to by the cd's and enjoy the music. .... Pass on the DVD...

4.0 out of 5 stars Decently Made Concert DVD, December 8, 2003
By
This review is from: Linkin Park: Live in Texas (DVD)
Tight. That's the word to describe a band like Linkin Park.

Slip the DVD in and it starts straightaway without those annoying interactive menus. 30 secs or so of backstage shots before they get on to rock. They performed at two Summer Sanitarium (with Metallic, Limp Bizkit etc.) concerts in Texas, and cut scenes from both to make this disc. Tens of thousands of people came to watch.

This band kicks off immediately on a huge stage. (Thank god no tacky pyrotechnics) Sound is extremely clear. Everything is edited pretty well. Another user posted that this DVD was shot with a lot of motion. But I think that effect ADDS to the whole concert feel, and as someone who does video editing, this DVD is not edited or shot badly.

The list of songs are pretty comprehensive, with them playing all well-known numbers. They compensate for little showmanship with a lot of energy. I really wonder how these rock concert performers perform night after night and manage to put up a good show. They have unlimitless amts of energy/stamina. Do they have personal trainers or what? How does Chester growl in one line and sing in the next? The fact that he doesn't crack at all is worth your time watching this.

Chester says something meaningful in trk 8 (audio CD). He wishes all the musicians in the house "Good Luck", and goes on to say that LP was once "on the other side of the barricade a few years ago...coming to these shows, seeing our fav. bands and having the dreams...just persevere, believe in yourselves and one day you'll be up here with us...". Lines as simple as those, have probably given hope to thousands of kids. Chester is unrehearsed, it can be seen on the DVD.

All in all, I don't think LP is out to cash-in with online marketing or whatever. They take extreme PRIDE in the fact that they have made their band ACCESSIBLE & are open to changing technologies. This is probably becos of technology incorporated into their music (the DJ stuff/electronica). So they sell a few t-shirts online... big deal

The best part of the DVD concert is clearly towards the ending. Probably starting onwards from NUMB. They are tight and really know their material well. (Hey, that's professional-Axl could learn something) On the dvd, you can't hear the live audience well, but you do see people mouthing the words in unison and the mosh pit. But the words really come thru on the cd. Thousands of voices all together. Chester says "its beautiful". I think it's scary. Seeing thousands of mouths singing YOUR thoughts, almost worshipping you. The closing song/performance is the best. Suspenseful. Chester goes crazy. (see on DVD)

All in all, a great music concert to watch. I'm NOT a LP fan, but respect them as musicians and artists. It's not easy to do what they do. LP does not have rock star attitude. (I watched interviews with the band and saw that)

(This live audio/dvd combo comes in 2 discs. Singapore RRP at SGD 29.90. Pretty good value for money.)

5.0 out of 5 stars I Thought It Was Phenomenal, May 18, 2006

See, you can't just go around trashing Linkin' Park because they're mainstream. Listen to them, and actually hear what they are saying. And, since this is live, this DVD is a perfect example. So, they come out with a strong Don't Stay opener, with the crowd jumping, and energy flowing. Same follows for Somewhere I Belong. Chester's screaming in Lying From You didn't seem on point the first time around, but I actually got it eventually. That's a bit of Meteora. Then we go into Hybrid Theory with a beautiful sounding Papercut (Beautiful meaning their voices at the bridge), Points Of Authority with some Reanimation mixed in, and a great sounding Runaway. To not spoil everything, well I think the best sounding song on here was P5hng Me A*wy. I thought it was great how they could do that song without Stephen Richards, and make it BETTER than Reanimation. Anyway, if you want a concert with 115% energy, and some great sounding people (And Guitars too), get this DVD. You won't be dissapointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great performance, Bad editing, November 18, 2003

This review is from: Linkin Park: Live in Texas (DVD)
The good:
Linkin Park is an awesome live act. Tight, energetic, strong vocals, a real layered sound achieved instrumentally and with Mr Hahn's manual scratching, keyboards and occasional loop. The sound on the DVD and CD sounds great to me. I'm not an expert at spoting overdubs, but I didn't hear anything suspicious. I also like that you get both a DVD and a CD in a reasonably priced package.
The bad:
The video was edited for teenagers. I felt like I was watching MTV cribs or something. Ridiculous. The cuts were so fast and jerky, it was hard to get a fix on anything. As a drummer, I like to check out the drummer and see what he's doing. It was just about worthless in that regard. The occasional drum shots lasted about a second. Of course I would like a multiple angle feature, which it didn't have on any songs.

So, I can't give the video 5 stars, but would recommend it to anyone who likes live hard rock.

4.0 out of 5 stars Succeeds on many levels with a few bumps along the way..., November 18, 2003
This review is from: Linkin Park: Live in Texas (DVD)
I'd like to open this up by saying that for the most part I really enjoyed this DVD, and that I have been a LP fan since late '99. So having seen a great deal of LP shows I am aware of the energy and emotion that they pack into their live performances. While this DVD does do a relatively good job of capturing this excitement and the performance is top-notch, the DVD itself suffers in several areas.

First, the absense of microphones in the crowd has SEVERELY crippled the dynamics of the performance and removes the feeling that the watcher/listener is actually there. When you are at a show you can hear everyone around you singing as loud as they can and the huge crowd and their involvement with the show is what makes it so powerful. With the exception of 2 tracks this is almost completely unevident on this release. An extremely huge letdown here.

Second, the decision to record this DVD at the Summer Sanitarium Tour means that at the time that it was filmed a great deal of the crowd hadn't shown up yet. Perhaps filming at a show in which LP had been headlining would have been a better idea.

And finally, I was sort of distracted by some of the video production. In attempts to dramatize the event there are lots of sparatic camera changes which for the most part work well, but the frequent use of slow motion grows frustrating.

Again I want to emphasize that though I have been listing my complaints about this DVD, that I still have given it a four star rating and still think that it is something fans of the band will enjoy. While I wouldn't mind seeing another live release with the band playing in a more intimate environment where the band is headlining and has more opportunities to interact with the crowd, I still really enjoyed this DVD and give it my stamp of approval

5.0 out of 5 stars Linkin Park rocks, July 19, 2004
This review is from: Linkin Park: Live in Texas (DVD)
Linkin Park is one of the best bands in the world ever, with their great talents, enormous energies, and hilarious performance. Although the DVD video should have been made better, it remains one of the greatest music DVD's. Of course, it will be even better to be in a live concert (Linkin Park will be my first choice). I am hoping that one day they will release an HD DVD version of the concert with DVD-Audio quality of sound, and better video editings. That will be the best music dvd ever.

This review is from: Linkin Park: Live in Texas (DVD)
Yo, This is a mindblowing dvd and it is worth way more than it costed. I mean i am ... a black male. My cultures music is rap and r&B. But when i heard of a band that did like a fusion of rap and metal music I rushed to get their cds and I am a huge fan. Linkin Park rocks on this dvd. I felt like I was at the concert. This was a mindblowing performance. They sound so good to be live and it has great quality. The morning i rolled over in bed and saw the commercial for this cd+dvd combination I knew then I had to buy it. I already loved Linkin Park but now they have gained a new level of respect from me. I love this dvd and it was worth the money I spent on it. I encourage everyone who likes Linkin Park to go buy this. I gurantee you will love it. Hurry up this is your last chance to rock with Linkin Park.

5.0 out of 5 stars LP haters everywhere, don't let them change your opinion., May 3, 2005
This review is from: Linkin Park: Live in Texas (DVD)
One thing I seemed to have noticed, is that you either love Linkin Park, or hate them. Most of the people I know who hate Linkin Park, seem to believe that people who scream throught their whole song and do nothing else are more talented. Luckily I can say that I am not one of them. I bought this DVD not to long after it came out (just like with all their cd's) and I was thouroughly impressed. I couldn't believe how awesome they sounded, and how into it they were. They gave 110% throughout the whole thing. When a band cares that much about its fans, you know you have a good thing going there. I first listened to this DVD with the volume blazing, and watched it from start to finish. I even watch it on a regular basis. Many of their most popular songs are included, and some even contain slight remixes. If your looking for A DVD that shows a lot of the behind-the-scenes action or fan point of view, then this isn't what you are looking for. It focuses soley on providing you with Linkin Park's live music, which is excellent, I must say. What sickens me, is that their are popular singer/bands out there (Ashlee Simpson, Britney Spears.. all those boy bands) who can't sing whatsoever. Then you get a talented group like Linkin Park, and you get music Fanboys all over the place. They can't take the fact that their may be a better, more popular band out there, and they feel the need to insult Linkin Park. This is certainly not the case for everyone who dislikes Linkin Park, but any of the reviews saying "Linkin Park Sucks, they are the worst band evvverrerer!" are most likely written by such a person. I respect people's opinions, but when they are displayed in this manner, I have no respect for the person at the other end of the internet. While this has mostly been a rant, I encourage you to take a listen and decide for yourself to discover if this is they type of band for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOUDER THAN METALICA, December 22, 2003

This review is from: Linkin Park: Live in Texas (DVD)
Of course the crowd was louder for Linkin Park than for Metallica, they wouldn't go to that concert if Linkin Park wasn't there. But lets stop teasing the unlucky fans of *cough Metallica *cough and be serious for a moment, I dont get what some people are saying about the camera angles on this DVD. I loved the slow-mo and close ups in here. It really catches teh energy of this concert and makes you want to sing along. I am not a hardcore LP fan in fact, i just got their cd's 2 years ago so this is a cd for anyone who is familar with their music.Obviously, we all know who the best band is...LINKIN PARK!!!!!!!!
