Golf Simulation,
By A Customer
This review is from: Links 2003 Championship Edition (CD-ROM)
An outstanding golf simulation with a varity of swing choices. Personally, I recommend the realtime swing as the closest simulation of an actual golf swing with all the faults found in true golf swing inconsistentcies. As is the case with any simulation, various charts can be developed which make game scores unrealistically low compared to the actual game, even when played by the finest golfers in the world. This simulation, however, does provide a skill level of play which depends more on practice and feel for particular golf shots than can be found in the more mechanical click type simulated golf swings. This skill level is not for the faint of heart and will not be mastered in a few short hours of play.

Great Golf Sim but PC Tweaks Required,
By Jim (PA, USA) - See all my reviews

I've been playing computer golf for over a decade, from "Mean 18", to all of the "Links" versions from Access (bought by Microsoft). This latest game is temperamental, and it does require some adjusting and experimenting with your PC settings to get the game running properly. You can find information at many "Links" websites, including Links Tour Forums, for tweaking your video card, etc. The game play and graphics are terrific once your system is adjusted. There are many free tournaments available each week from Microsoft "Online" Tours. You can play while online or offline (your choice), and you have a week to compete in many tournaments. This is a great non-violent game, that requires practice and patience. Many players use charts for various course conditions when chipping, putting, or driving. There are three wind conditions, and nine green conditions. Twenty courses come with the latest version of Links 2003, and many more are available as free online downloads. Get the game, get your graphics card adjusted, and have fun.

I bougnt this game locally, at Staples.
And it works flawlessly in Windows XP, Its upgradable and it has a left handed option, for us "Southpaws" And its pretty easy. If I can go 19 under par after 18 holes, you probably can too. Robert J. Schuller

I've been playing this game for years. Loaded on various machines for me and quite a few times for other people. Not to mention knowing many in the Links community. This software does not crash on properly maintained machines. Period.
Good game. Excellent add on environment. Course builder. Swing mechanics and physics. All in all, a solid golf game.

I bought this game back in the day when it first hit retail. Microsoft has since ditched it but a few loyal followers keep it alive code-wise. You can buy this as a download version for $7 if you google well enough ;)
The current problem is trying to tun this game on Win7 with a Nvidia card. It simply crashes alot, enough to be a showstopper. ATI cards seem to fare well from the anectodal reports I see on a couple of the Links Forums out there. Hopefully a new Nvidia driver and possibly a 1.08 code update will make this game live on! Its great to have on your laptop or netbook if you travel alot and need a passtime. I use this and the downloadable version of Virtual Pool 3 to keep my mind busy. Unfortunately the downloadable version of VP3 isn't quite so cheap as the $7 Links 2K3 deal.

I RESISTED UPGRADING MY OLD, 2000 LINKS GOLF GAME, AS I CONSIDERED IT CHALLENGING ENOUGH. WHEN I SAW SOME OF THE NEWER LINKS GAMES, HOWEVER, I THOUGHT I SHOULD PERHAPS UPGRADE.
THE 2003 VERSION OFFERED MANY MORE COURSES TO PLAY THAN OTHER VERSIONS. I SELECTED THIS VERSION ALSO BECAUSE IT HAD A WIDER VARIETY OF GAME & PLAYER OPTIONS. THE GRAPHICS, THOUGH STILL WITH SOME FLAWS, ARE OVERALL VERY GOOD.

I was perfectly happy with the way the transaction was handled. The game itself has a number of bugs in it though that are not the fault of Amazon. Those I can live with though so all is well with me.

When I play the comptuer game I feel like I am playing real golf. I'd rather play real golf but when I cannot do that this game is a good substitute. If you look on the internet there are many many courses for you to download after you buy the game. The free download courses are bettter than the ones you get with tha game. Enjoy this 5 stars.
