Poorly supported, poorly behaved,
By
This review is from: Linksys by Cisco Rangeplus Wireless PCI Adapter (Personal Computers)
Installation is easy, but nothing else really is. Poor reception with my Cisco WRT400N less than 70 ft away. Constantly drops connection every 10 to 15 minutes and has low speeds <6mbps when it is connected. The wireless monitor also has a tendency to eat memory. After about 4 days of use, it manages to hoard over 500mbs of memory. This is on Windows XP SP3...
If you're using Vista or Windows 7: DO NOT BUY THIS CARD. It is not compatible at all with windows 7 despite the compatibility assurance. This is perhaps the nail in the coffin for my 8 year product relationship with Linksys/Cisco.

Not for Vista x64,

The up side is this card brings my reception bars up from 2 to 4 over the wmp54g.
The bad new is, this device and driver freezes my Windows Vista x64 edition within 5 minutes of boot-up. Updating the driver did not help. This wireless adapter might work for XP or 32-bit Vista, but not for Vista x64.

Works for me!,

This product works great for me. I just installed it in a new computer running XP, and followed others advise to NOT follow the directions, and instead install the card in the PCI slot FIRST, and then power up the computer, wait for it to prompt you to install the driver for the new hardware. I put in the Linksys CD that came with the card, and it found the driver right away and finished the installation. I am not running and did not install the linksys software that came with the card. Works great!. On my old computer, I was just running the little Linksys USB wireless adapter. I have it installed out in my workshop, which is about 100 feet away from my house, and farther yet to my wireless G router. With the old USB adapter, I was lucky to get 11MBps on a very good day. Most days I only had 2MBps. With this card, I'm getting 36Mbps! I'd call that a definite improvement!

I installed it into a Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) box and it worked flawlessly. Was detected immediately upon boot. No issues what so ever. No extra drivers needed. Painless.

I've been using the Linksys WMP110 RangePlus card for over a week now without any troubles. The install was simple and easy. I'm using this with the Netgear DGN2000 wireless N router which has a built in DSL modem. Yeah, stinks that I have to use DSL but my apartment complex is 'locked' in with AT&T ... not something I am happy about. I am happy, however, with how easy this was to set up an use. I had concerns about making this purchase based on earlier user feedback ... but it really couldn't have been easier! Rest assured that this card does work with other brand routers (obviously it's working with my Netgear router) and works just as it should. I leave my PC on for days at a time and have experienced no service interruptions. I expected to have to troubleshoot to get this working but it was as easy as 1-2-3. Not sure what the product complaints are that other users mention as I have not experienced those troubles. I feel no hesitation in suggesting friends/family use this product.

Failure,

The box mentions "Certified for Vista", but it's total bull. On their own website, Linksys mentions that they have no plans to support Vista, but that didn't stop them from combining shoddy Vista drivers that will freeze your system and require turning off and on the computer in order to continue.
Don't buy this product or any Linksys product. Vista isn't the problem, it's distributors like Linksys that won't take the time to program and test their drivers that's the problem.

Loses Connection To Internet Frequently,

WMP110 adapter was installed on desktop using Windows XP SP2 32 bit. It always showed full bars to the router, yet it couldn't hold onto the internet connection for more than 5 minutes. Went through a ton of troubleshooting procedures and hours with Linksys reps, even exchanging them for 2 others, but nothing helped.
Not recommended.

I have been a linksys fan forever, but this card makes vista even more of a nightmare. It freezes the system within 5 mins of bootup. It's not just 64bit... also 32.

I bought this wireless desktop card at a local store. Put it in my desktop PC running MS Vista and Ubuntu Linux. 2 out of 5 bars on the wifi meter on my PC. WTF? And this is with a wifi card with TWO antennas? Is my Desktop PC in another room with walls separating it from my wireless router? NO! My PC is in the same fricken room at the router, about six meters away and NO walls between. Unbelievably horrible reception. My laptop computer sits about 2 meters from my Linksys wifi router and gets 5 out of 5 bars reception, and gets 2/5 bars reception upstairs through walls and a floor, so it is NOT a problem with the router. I paid $75 with tax for this card and I am going to return it, shamefully horrible reception! The only positive note I can give for this card is that it worked out of the box with not only MS Vista but also Ubuntu Linux 8.10

I purchased this wireless PCI adapter for my father. He has an aging home built computer in a part of the house where there aren't even any phone lines. they were just upgraded to DSL with a wireless router so I suggested this. Installed easily and worked with little effort.
