Product Description

Growing businesses require cost effective, networking solutions that can scale with ever changing business needs. The Linksys SRW208MP WebView managed switch brings a whole new level of intelligence and security to the network infrastructure. The combination of its intelligence and small size make it ideal for a conference room or training room where security and uptime are important. It offers a two Gigabit copper or optical interfaces for connection to a core switch. For Wireless or VoIP deployments, the SRW208MP supports IEEE802.3af standard for Power over Ethernet. With automatic load sensing, the power control circuitry automatically detects Power over Ethernet on end-device before providing power. Power feeding of Ethernet limited for fixed 10/100 Base-T/TX ports. The solution can provide maximum output power per PoE port up to 15.4W on all 8 ports simultaneously.

3.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely capable - but with serious flaws, June 17, 2010
This review is from: Linksys by Cisco SRW208MP 8-port 10/100 Ethernet Switch - WebView/Max PoE (Personal Computers)
Pros:
Stable / reliable / fast switching engine.
I use these switches for remote locations where a minimum of power requirements is a must (like a wireless ISP deployment). Certainly there are better choices for this - but at a much higher price tag.
The configuration options are exhaustive, I assume nobody will ever take even 50% of the (M)STP / LAG / RSTP / TACACS+ / ACL / QoS - and much more of options in use. You need a degree in networking before every option makes immediately sense.
The power supply is huge, but given the Max-POE configuration, it is justified. The power factor of the PS is good, 0.85 measured here. I see 11W and 14VA idle consumption with 1 port connected, without POE consumers. That is something that matters to me.

Cons:
The HTTP Interface only works with MS Internet Explorer. That is mysterious, because Cisco usually strives to be platform independent. The biggest drawback is: The Web Interface is outrageously slow in response.
When do you need to access a managed switch?
When the network is down.
When does it feel most aggravating to wait for a page to load?
When your butt is on fire.
The CLI (Command line interface) is existent, but rudimentary. It can be a bacon-saver if you need to reboot the switch if the Web interface stops responding (And that happens occasionally).
Doing a Firmware upgrade, you better have that switch on your desk and not far away!!! Despite there is not much Firmware besides 1.0.2 and 1.0.4. ehh.

Other thoughts:
If I had designed that switch, I would cut back on esoteric options and allocate resources to Interface response time, Browser compatibility and error checking code. That switch hung on me in the most inappropriate moments (That is: The management interface, not the switching engine!)
On the hardware side, I would include some heavy lightning and over-voltage protection on all ports to increase reliability, and that switch would run under harsh conditions and be that leaf-node power supply and hard-to-kill device which it probably was intended to be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice PoE injector switch, August 4, 2010
This review is from: Linksys by Cisco SRW208MP 8-port 10/100 Ethernet Switch - WebView/Max PoE (Personal Computers)
I use this switch to mainly to inject power for a few Cisco 7960 (pre-standard) phones. The switch has a bunch of enterprise-like features, like VLAN support, fiber GBICs, console connection, etc.

Be aware that this little switch has a fan, so it's noisy. If fits nicely in a rack with the included rackmounts, but isn't a switch you'd like to have on your desk.
