Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Easily network your home using existing electrical outlets

The Powerline Ethernet Adapter lets you easily create a network using the existing electrical outlets in your home. Now you don't have to drill holes in walls and climb through the attic or cellar to install network cables--just use the wires that already run through the building.

The Powerline Adapter connects computers, or any other wired Ethernet device, using the HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo network standard. It also works with older HomePlug 1.0 devices. Adding a device to the network is as simple as plugging the Powerline Adapter into an electrical outlet, and connecting your Ethernet-equipped device using the included network cable. Additional devices can be connected to the same network using additional Powerline Adapters plugged into any electrical outlet anywhere in the house.

Once your computers are connected to the network, they can share resources like printers and storage space, and all kinds of files--music, digital pictures, and documents.  With up to 85Mbps data rates, you can play lag-free head-to-head network computer games, and run applications like Voice over IP telephony. Plug your Internet connected router into a Powerline Ethernet Adapter and you'll be able to get to the Internet from any Powerline attached computer in the house.

The Linksys Powerline Ethernet Adapter is the perfect solution for easy, no new wires home or office networking.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beware - incompatible with the PLK300 series!!!, December 3, 2009

I have the PLK300 powerline network kit. This works great. Then I tried to expand my network and bought the PLTE200 - assuming they would be compatible. They look IDENTICAL so, I assumed there would be backwards compatibility. There isn't. I found this out after 2 hours on tech-support.

Seriously, Linksys, if you are going to make an incompatible product, please:

1. Make them look different.

2. Put labels on the boxes telling you which models it will work with and which ones it will NOT wok with.

I think I probably ate up all the profit you might have made by talking to your tech support. And in the end Im having to return the product.

In a few words...I unboxed it, plugged it in and it works great! I was up and running in about 10 minutes. One note...I have seen some comments that it doesn't matter if you follow the directions about not plugging these units into a surge protector...not exactly true. Out of convenience I plugged the adapter at my router into a surge protector. The other adapter across the room at my satellite box worked fine, so I proceeded to install another adapter upstairs. It showed that it found the network, but there was no connectivity. I moved the plug of the unit at the router from the surge protector to a wall plug and BINGO it all worked. I am OK with this as the manuals advertise that the Adapters have surge protection built in.

Bought today to connect my Dish Vip 622 and Xbox 360 Elite. I already have a 85Mbps adapter connected to my router and internet. I just followed the instructions, plug in ethernet cable to device, plug in power to wall and connect to PLTE200. Seconds later, I was connected to XBOX Live and playing online! Works great, just have to follow directions!
