I just replaced my old router, with this SE 1500 switch a week ago (Dated 2011 on the box), with no problems. There are five ports. I plugged in the ethernet cable from my modem in port 5 and used the other 4 ports for my computers (2 ports are active now - See picture - Blue is from modem).

I can access the internet with both computers at the same time. I have Time Warner Cable, with a strong signal. I am not sure, but I expect my cable company provides two IP addresses. My Yahoo research after buying this indicates a switch is not generally used (nor works) to access the internet with two computers and a router is needed, unless two IP addresses are provided by the internet provider (I can not confirm or deny this information - I found it on Yahoo) - Seems some good luck worked in my favor.

NOTE: I purchased mine at the local Walmart for the same price -(90 day return policy - no questions) - They have it on line too.

The switch seems to know that I have used port 5 from the modem and takes care of the rest, since it does not have a titled in port for the modem.

This switch also allows two different computer VPN sites for work to log on and operate - My old router was out-dated and the VPN on one computer would not link to my company site - but I could access the internet, without logging on the VPN. (Oddly the other computer would log on via VPN, but a different company - I was told it was a security issue with the old router) Now both computers will log on the two different company VPNs with the SE1500.

This just saved me about $500/year, since I do not need to pay for a second cable company modem.

I am so glad this is available. I did not want to go wireless.

Great little switch. No set-up required, just plug it in and go. I was worried about compatibility with my Linksys WRT54G V2 router because Linksys recommended the SE2500, but this one worked great right out of the box and it's cheaper. Now I have 4 ports available at my media center instead of the single wired port I had before. And since I'm utilizing a wired connection with this switch I don't have to worry about wireless bandwidth for video - and this leaves my wirless bandwidth fully available for devices that have to be wireless, like our Kindles, smart phones and IPads. Win-win!

If I need more ports at any of my other locations I'll buy another one just like this one.

So my room mate and myself only get two internet ports in our dorm room which can be a bit of a problem if your college wireless isn't as fast in your dorm as it could be for whatever reason, and you have multiple internet wanting devices. We ended up doing a search for moderately priced switches to try and get wired out to all of our devices from one port, as it turned out to be the only one willing to give us internet access.

It works just great and set up is extremely simple. Plug the power in and plug the Ethernet cables into the switch and the devices and off it goes.

No problems so far for us at all.

But if you're thinking of getting it for a college dorm, just make sure that your IT department allows for switches plugged into the wired network from the student side!!

I can remember the days when I had two devices that needed to be plugged into the internet; my computer, and my roommates computer. Today I live alone and I have 7 wired items and countless wifi items all connected to the net.

I currently have my the following wired sources. Computers, 2 TiVos, Sling Box, Playstation, Samsung Smart TV, Server for DVD and extra storage. I attempted to use the wifi mode on the TV and and Playstation but even in 2012, nothing can beat a good wired plug. I bought this simply plug-n-play switch. I added a network cable (not included only reason for 4 stars) from my router to this device. Plugged my second TiVo, TV, and Playstation into this device without any issues. I have since forgotten that device into my network. Works as advertised and for a decent price.

Very simple and easy to use switch.

After fussing around with an older netgear switch and never getting it to work, I broken down and bought this one. Installation was easy, plugged in the ethernet cables, turned on the modem and then the switch and DONE. That's it no configuration, just results!

This is an inexpensive switch from Linksys. For less than thirty dollars you get a 5-port switch with standard data rate of 10/100 Mbps. It has it's own power supply, power on LED indicator as well as LED indicators for each active port. It's a pretty small, compact size and light weight switch. Nothing special, but nice and small, good value for the price.

When I went to visit my mother-in-law in Florida, I discovered that she had purchased a medical alert bracelet that required an Internet connection. The main unit for the medical device, required that the single Ethernet cable she had, be plugged into the back of the unit. Since I wanted to use my laptop computer, and there was no wireless connection available, I wasn't sure what to do. My brother-in-law, who lives in the same condo complex, let me use his computer to search for something on Amazon that would solve the problem. After searching for a while; I came across this Ethernet switch made by Lynksys and made the purchase.

Setting it up couldn't have been easier. First I plugged the Ethernet switch into a wall outlet. Than, I removed the main Ethernet cable from the medical device and plugged it into port number one on the switch. Next, I plugged the medical device into port number two. Finally, I plugged my laptop into port number three. The only extra items that I had to purchase were two 6' Ethernet cables which I used for the medical device and my laptop computer. The entire set-up took less than 5 minutes and the results were exactly what I had hoped for. I'm able to use my laptop computer at the same time that my mother-in-law's medical device is in use. Linksys, which is known for making great products, has another winner here.
