Unit Failed - Warranty Service Nearly Impossible

The unit worked fine for two months then failed. Unconnected ports began blinking continuously bringing down the entire network. Disconnected everything, power off for > 5 minutes, plug in unit alone (no Ethernet connected), same 3 ports begin blinking.
After spending 65 minutes on the phone, off-shore customer support and tech support were unable or unwilling to generate case number so that I could obtain RMA for warranty return. Sure, the switch is inexpensive, but a warranty that cannot be executed is as worthless as a defective switch.
