Wireless-AC for Faster Speed and Reliability

Upgrade your wireless home network and enjoy faster speeds than conventional wireless-N using the AC900 Dual-Band Smart Wi-Fi Router from Linksys. This router offers wireless-AC technology, which delivers a faster, stronger Wi-Fi connection ideal for online HD video streaming services. With speeds up to AC900 Mbps (N300 +AC565), wireless-AC provides gigabit Wi-Fi speeds that allow content to download faster. Wireless-AC makes it possible for you to stream shows on your HDTV while family members download music or other files–without interruption due to a slow network connection. The AC900 includes a USB 3.0 port and four gigabit ports to let you connect multiple devices, allowing you to quickly print, share, and store content across your network.

Beamforming Creates Stronger, Faster Connections

The Linksys AC900 Smart Wi-Fi router features beamforming, an innovative technology that optimizes the wireless signal strength between your connected devices and Linksys router. Beamforming enables the router to identify and connect directly with other devices, rather than simply sending out wireless signals in a general direction. The result is faster network speeds, better wireless range, and reduced interference from other devices. It also helps extend the battery life of connected devices and reduce their power consumption because data is transferred more quickly.

Manage Your Home Network Remotely with Linksys Smart Wi-Fi

With Linksys Smart Wi-Fi, you can access and control your home network from wherever you are using your smartphone, tablet, or computer. For example, you can set parental controls to restrict Internet access during certain times of the day and create unique, secure Wi-Fi passwords for your guests. You can also monitor activity on your home network, add new devices, and check upload and download speeds. In addition, Linksys Smart Wi-Fi allows you to prioritize which devices on your network receive the most bandwidth to reduce lag times and buffering when you're streaming HD media or gaming. Your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account also gives you access to of apps that provide additional ways to control and interact with your home Wi-Fi network. Block the Bad Stuff lets you add one of three levels of protective filtering to help safeguard your wireless network. Device Monitr allows you to monitor game consoles, tablet computers, and other devices, while NetProofer lets you restrict access to certain websites.

Upgrade Your Devices to Enjoy the Full Benefits of Wireless-AC

Using Linksys's family of wireless-AC peripherals, you can take full advantage of the improved speed and stability of wireless-AC. Linksys Universal Media Connector lets you connect wired devices such as game consoles and smart TVs to your Wi-Fi network and stream HD or even 3D HD video content. The connector operates on the 5 GHz band, resulting in less interference and a clearer signal. Additionally, the Linksys Wireless-AC Mini-USB Adapter (AE6000) makes it simple to upgrade your laptop or desktop computer to wireless-AC technology.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
If you've been using a "free" router provided by your ISP, this Linksys router will give you some interesting additional features not found in the freebies. A guest mode lets you create a separate network with a separate password and access to the internet, but not to other devices on your network. A USB port lets you connect a hard driver or printer that can be accessed by any device on your network. Parental controls let you limit access based on time of day or web address.

There are supposedly performance optimizations based on media prioritization and beam forming, but I have no way to test whether those actually work or not. I had no problems with connectivity and performance, though my home is not really large. Media prioritization supposedly allows you to give higher priority to selected devices on your network, which could be useful if for example you want to allocate a lot of bandwidth to streaming video and less to other uses.

Setup and configuration is always an issue with network devices. Make sure you access is using a generic DNS setup or you will confuse the setup process. Once I figured that out, the setup went smoothly. The setup makes you create a Linksys account to manage your router remotely. Network control is nice since you can login from anywhere to manipulate your router settings; but if someone hacks into the Linksys server, you could be in trouble. There is an option to disable network access in the settings.

The main issue I have with this device is that the configuration software is too simple. Simplicity is good for people with only basic computer skills, but it also leaves out a lot of things that more advanced uses will want to do.

Not only does Linksys make this product hard to use, it doesn't even work consistently when properly configured. I have replaced several of these units at customer locations because they kept dropping the wireless connection. It doesn't even work with a single computer connected.

Save your money, buy a Netgear. Like I always say, when you want to spend too much, and still have a network that doesn't work, use Linksys (Cisco).

I bought the first one and I thought I got a defective one. The second worked better but keeps dropping signal and eventhough my house is not really big I dont get full bars, in fact my neighbor wireless gets to my house with full bars while this Linksys is showing 3.
I bought this one to replace my old Linksys which there was nothing wrong with it and lived several years, I am thinking about switching back

This router was supposed to be an upgrade from another Linksys and I'm going to end up going back to the old one or abandoning Linksys altogether. This one will not set up wirelessly with my printer, no matter how many times I try through the printer or the router or through my computer. I finally connected it through the USB and that only worked until the first time the power went out. I need my printer to work wirelessly but now I can't get it to work with either my desktop or laptop using the USB or the wireless. (I NEVER had this problem with the older router.) It's beyond frustrating. One of the primary reasons that I purchased this one was it was supposed to handle more devices, etc. and it doesn't do that any better than the old one either. I'm very disappointed and unfortunately, I missed the return window.

Our last router was cheaper and everyone in our office was able to get a signal fine. This signal comes and goes.

The guest network does not support encryption. Once the user connects to the guest network they then have to enter the guest network password from the configuration into a webpage but all of their traffic is still sent unencrypted.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I had pretty much given up on Linksys routers for the last few years, ever since my WRT54G finally died. The last five years of Linksys routers have brought along new design changes, but not much when it comes to actual performance or improvements with the admin console. For the last month I tested out the Linksys AC900 and the AC1600. If you have no knowledge at all of routers, the first thing you should do is determine if you need a "standard" or "premium" router. I would consider the AC900 a premium router, in that it supports dual band and is based on the latest 802.11ac wireless technology (even though there isn't much that takes advantage of those speeds yet). If you just need a basic wireless network for connecting your laptop or tablet and only plan on web browsing with it, you do not need the AC 900 and should do fine with a sub $60 router like the Linksys E1200. If you don't have an existing laptop or desktop PC to configure the router, I highly recommend the Securifi Almond router.

If you decide you want a router that supports advanced features and are willing to spend $100, you can start in the Linksys "premium" line with the entry-level AC900. I replaced my ASUS RT-N66U router and first tried out a range test. I noticed less range with the AC900 on both the single and dual band. I don't know if that is caused by the antenna on the AC900, but I will say it was not enough of a difference for me to worry that much about (about 6 feet), and overall, the range is pretty good.
