Book Description

May 8, 2012
Linspired reveals the remarkable journey of the ultimate underdog, Jeremy Lin, superstar of the New York Knicks and the first American-born player of Chinese/Taiwanese descent to play in the NBA. In spite of being cut by two NBA teams before he signed with the Knicks, Lin always trusted that God had a plan for his life and his talents: 'I'm not exactly sure how it is all going to turn out, but I know for a fact that God has called me to be here now in the NBA,' says Lin in Linspired. After weeks of sitting at the end of the bench, a teammate's injury finally placed Lin on the court. Since then, he has captivated sports fans throughout the world with his tremendous skill and humble response to 'Linsanity.' Weighing in on this phenomenon are tennis's Michael Chang, the first notable Asian-American athlete, Lin's pastor, Stephen Chen, and Pat Williams, senior vice president of the Orlando Magic. Other features include eight pages of full-color photos and in-depth interviews with Lin himself. Here is the remarkable inside story of the meteoric rise of Jeremy Lin.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy and fun read May 24, 2012
Format:Paperback
Mike Yorkey does a good job describing the meteoric rise of Jeremy Lin in this short but enjoyable read. Along the way we learn about Lin's struggles growing up (trying to be taller!), his demotions, and ultimately, his proving all the critics wrong and becoming a standout NBA player.

At just 170 pages or so, LINSPIRED is an easy read that anyone can finish in one sitting. I read it almost straight through.

Chapter 1, CHASING THE AMERICAN DREAM, describing how his parents met, is one of the best in the entrie book.

Basketball fans will really enjoy, but anyone who likes to root for the underdog will enjoy as well.

Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I love Jeremy Lin's story. One of my children was adopted from Taiwan, so I love seeing the success of a Taiwanese-American ball player. I've appreciated his humility in light of success and his commitment to Christ in the midst of sports culture.

However, as much as I like Lin, he hasn't been in the spotlight long enough to warrant the books and articles and merchandising that his quick rise to fame, so books like this are likely to just make a quick splash in marketing and sales before fizzling out. This one is written so casually and simply that it seems as if the author threw it together as quickly as possible to capitalize on Lin's successes while they last. From the first-person writing to the casual language (Jeremy was "dunked" rather than "baptized" or "immersed," weighed "a buck-fifty" as a high school junior, had trouble being recruited by a Division I school by "a 'system' that blocked his path like two Shaqs in the paint,") to the conversations written in interview format, it seemed to be geared toward middle school or elementary students than adults. In fact, I plan to read this out loud to my kindergarten daughter at bedtime, starting next week. That's the level at which it is written.

Finally, this is published by Zondervan, which is a Christian publishing house, and several Bible verses are scattered throughout as segues in the story. As a Christian, I liked that, but you might want to look for a different book if you aren't.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick Biography of Jeremy Lin August 13, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I picked this book up knowing only a little about Jeremy Lin. After reading the book, I became an instant fan. Lin has been described as the "Asian Tim Tebow" or the "NBA's Tim Tebow." It is an apt description. This book tells Lin's story starting with his parents' immigration to the US from Taiwan, his childhood, his start in basketball, his high school and college basketball career, and his NBA career. This is the story of an underdog, a hard worker, and an individual of strong personal character and faith. Whether or not Lin continues to astound in the NBA, his is a remarkable story which demonstrates nice guys can succeed.
