I am not even remotely fluent in French, but,

this record outshines that sad fact from end to end with its gorgeous arrangements, audibly kinetic mirth, and convoluted, drunken humanity. Boby LaPointe needs to be everywhere. Buy this record - take the risk - and play it for everyone that you encounter. Together, we'll change the world.

Lecons de francais sommaire,
By A Customer
This review is from: L'integrales Des Enregistrements (Audio CD)
Well, I'm afraid you need to understand some French in order to appreciate how great Boby Lapointe was. A stunning artist, also known as 'the subtitled singer' after his 1959 appearance in François Truffaut's 'Shoot the Piano Player', he recorded between 1960 and 1969 a handful of songs wich are today regarded as small classics, well-crafted masterpieces of wit and good humour. The music itself is utterly enjoyable: funny, cabaret-like stuff, raised to top quality by the work of arranger Alain Goraguer (many will recall his collaborations with Serge Gainsbourg). But what stands out are Lapointe's texts, filled with puns, calembours and nonsense tricks, performed at unreasonable speed, a brilliant exercise in deformation of what used to be called French language. This double CD collects all of Lapointe's studio recordings. With great packaging, remastered sound, and french texts included, it's simply indispensable.

Great Complete Recordings from B.Lapointe!,
This review is from: L'integrales Des Enregistrements (Audio CD)
These 2 cds are quite a treasure.I think the review that already exists on this page is quite helpful, and I agree with it, but I just want to add that the Framboise, is not the same interpretation as the one on Truffaud's film ( acctualy it's much much slower).
