An excellent book which covers just what you need to know to get you started with the KDE desktop. I have recommended this book to a number of people who want to move away from MS Windows, but don't feel ready to tackle, or are intimidated by, the new Gnome 3 interface.

Kubuntu (Ubuntu + the KDE desktop) has always been my favourite distro, so it's a refreshing change to see a book dedicated to Kubuntu (and KDE). Linux For Newbies takes you through the entire install process, has plenty of screen shots, and will even recommend applications which is always helpful for those making the switch from Windows. For any Windows user looking to try Linux I always recommend Kubuntu as KDE is far more Windows-like than most other desktops (I'm looking at you Unity!) and this book is definitely a good starting point for new users.

My wife bought me this book for my birthday and my initial reaction was somewhat negative. However, since I've started reading it my entire perception of LINUX and other commerical operating systems has changed dramatically! It's well structured - has simple yet effective screen-shots and is just perfect for people wanting to migrate across with excellent tips-and-tricks throughout. The author's enthusiasm for LINUX is evident in every page and I'm now looking to read his Dreamweaver book - good work!
