This yarn is very soft and easy to work with.

I find this yarn a little difficult to work with, especially with lacy patterns where you need to K2tog quite a bit.

I love Lion Brand yarn in general and the Homespun is no exception.

For years I have tried to crochet with the soft & beautiful Lion Brand Homespun Yarn only to end up frustrated. I finally figured out to get the best experience is to use a size Q hook and 2 strands at a time. It goes fast and now I am making afghans as Christmas gifts, they are super soft and you cannot go wrong on any of the colors.

Patterns using this product can be downloaded for free at the Lion Brand website but because it takes at least 6 skeins to make a decent size throw you should look for better yarn prices through Amazon or Joanns with a coupon than at Lion Brand.

As an avid crocheter I've used this yarn many times. Lion Brand Homespun is a very soft synthetic yarn, great for shawls, soft scarves and all things cozy.

The downside is that it does take a little getting used to. Because of it's slippery soft texture and loosely wound fibers it can be difficult to see the spaces where you want to insert your needle or hook. Having said that, you do become accustomed to "feeling" where the appropriate space is. But for those who are perfectionists and/or need to count stitches exactly it can be a bit of a challenge. This is particularly true of the darker colors which make it even harder to see. I do know experienced knitters who dislike using it for those reasons.

The only other thing I would say is, shop around for the price. $10.00+ for a skein is extremely expensive for this yarn. It is widely available in craft stores, department stores, and other places on the web. Basically, although it says "free shipping", you are paying anywhere from $4.- $6. extra per skein by buying it from amazon at these prices.

The yarn gets a 4 star review from me for its general appearance when made into garments. It gets a 2-3 for ease of use, and a 1 for value at this price. I was on the fence about giving it a 2 or 3 score, but as I see the other review doesn't take any of the negatives into consideration, I went with the 2.

I have a love-hate relationship with Lion Homespun yarn. You can make really nice, warm, fluffy stuff out of it; I've made some very gorgeous scarves.

However, every once in a while (and this happened the first time I ever worked with it), you end up with a bad skein. It will bunch up while you're working with it. If you try to un-bunch it, it will eventually break. NOT good.

So, use this yarn happily, and enjoy your finished product, but be forewarned: sometimes Lion Homespun can be evil.

I really love this yarn overall. I have knit four large shawls for my family members using this yarn and it comes together so beautifully. The colors are absolutely gorgeous. The shawls end up being very warm, incredibly soft, with a little bit of stretch to them. I love the finished look! Some negative aspects of the yarn include fraying and bunching. I find that the yarn bunches frequently, making it very hard to knit! I don't know if I am doing something wrong...but regardless, it is extremely annoying! However, it is important to note that the integrity of the scarf/shawl remained intact!

The price of this yarn here is ridiculous. This is acrylic yarn and should be in the $2 - $5 range, not over $10. I bought this at A.C.Moore for 1.99. Don't buy this here.

And I love Amazon. But this is way overpriced.

I don't generally like acrylic yarns but the thickness of this one makes it perfect for fast projects on big hooks or needles. It has a lot of texture so it's best for patterns that don't have a lot of detail. I use it for afghans and for very fast fashion scarves for my daughter.
You do have to wash it carefully. It pills very badly sometimes.
For the near instant gratification, it's a fun yarn to use occasionally, it won't replace the nicer yarns I use but it's a great option for teaching crochet or knitting.

The pricing of this yarn is totally off line. Not even the manufacture Lion Brand charges more than $7.49 per skein. Knock off $10!!! Don't cheat people with your greediness.

This yarn itself is fabulous. The only complaint I have (and its a legit one) is that I was charged over $9 for 1, yes one, skien of yarn ($6 in stores)! I thought I was getting three for that price. I got (1) one. It would have been too much in shipping and hassle to send it back so I didn't but, I was VERY upset! I ended up ordering from Joanne Fabrics and getting the same thing for 1/2 the price. Everything is usually so my cheaper on Amazon so when I saw this yarn I thought for sure it was a 3 skien price not just one! Lesson learned.
