5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome!!
Unlike many video games based on movies, The Lion King for Sega Genesis really follows the plot of the movie. You start out as young Simba in the pridelands. Battle through six different levels (and one bonus level) and then Simba grows up. Levels include "Elephant Graveyard," "Exile," and "Stampede." In the last level, you must find Scar on Pride Rock and throw him...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Lion King
In this game you run around as a stupid little lion who wants to be the King.I think it is good for younger kids, but not for older ones.

Unlike many video games based on movies, The Lion King for Sega Genesis really follows the plot of the movie. You start out as young Simba in the pridelands. Battle through six different levels (and one bonus level) and then Simba grows up. Levels include "Elephant Graveyard," "Exile," and "Stampede." In the last level, you must find Scar on Pride Rock and throw him into the fire. (which is pretty hard the first time) Once you get the hang of it, many of the levels are easy (Willow Cascade is probably the most difficult) and the game is easy to beat in about an hour or so. I would reccomend this game to fans of the movie and people who love action games. There is also a cheat code! In the main menu, go into options, then press right, A, A, B, Start and then you will get to go to any level in the game including bonus levels!

5.0 out of 5 stars So what if it's not 3-D blood and gore?, February 28, 2003
This review is from: The Lion King GEN (Video Game)
This is a classic. You are Simba making his way through various challenging levels, each of which represents a different event from Disney's The Lion King. Every level has creative challenges Simba must overcome (you'll find that you often must avoid being squashed by a rolling boulder). Your main opponents are hyenas and hot lava, your health comes from bugs, the evil mastmermind boss is (of course) Scar, the graphics are absolutely charming, and you even see Simba's age progression when he suddenly appears with a mane.

It's a simple, well-done, happy little game, and definitely more than worth your [$].

5.0 out of 5 stars Best sega game of all time, November 12, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Lion King GEN (Video Game)
I grew up playing this game...i've never beaten it, but have come very close....It requires such focus and concentration....jumping side to side up the wall with the green acid slime thing chasing you, the stampede (I have all the rocks memorized...i can go through that level with my eyes closed...)jumping up the waterfall on the falling logs, but most importantly trying to get the roll just right so you don't get crushed by the rock....it keeps you trying and trying, but rewards well with a new level all with different looks, music, and challenges....you even grow up and get a bunch of new moves...and it all definitely follows the storyline of the movie...you even see muffasa in the clouds at one point...and battle scar in the end...
I would totally recommend this game to anyone....while it's not as high-tech with all the effects of all the new games, it has much more substance....most of the sega games can't be topped..like lion king, alladin, paperboy, mickey mouse, the barenstein bears, sonic the hedgehog, and many more....but espesially the lion king one....

The game the lion king is very fun. You are Simba and you go through diffrent levils like the pride lands and the elephant grave yard. But there is some bad gyes like lizards and voltures. In this game you can be adult and kid Simba. The gaphics are prety good too.

I missed out on this game when I was a kid, and felt the need to try it out.

It's everything you loved about gaming when you were a kid. Fun music, interesting action, simple gameplay.

I still have yet to conquer even the "Stampede" level, but it's still a blast. The higher difficulties can be pretty challenging, which is what gave you your money's worth when these games were coming out.

Just like the Aladdin Sega game, this was one of my all time favorites as a child. Although the game probably won't attract an older crowd, this game provides hours of fun!

I love this game! It's a challenge, but not unbeatable. This game is a lot of fun, and there are bonus levels scattered all over it. It was the first and one of the best sega games I ever played.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still a classic., October 2, 2011

I don't know what all of these "great for younger kids but maybe not for older ones" reviews are talking about because this game is hard. I grew up playing it, and when I was a kid I couldn't get past the fourth level or so. I'm in my 20s now and know this game inside and out after countless playthroughs, so I can beat it without too much snarling of profanities at the bats in Be Prepared, but my roommates, who never played it as children, still have trouble getting through Roar At Monkeys, much less the later levels. This game is good for any age, and it never gets old. It's still a classic and it's still immensely fun after all these years. It's MORE than worth the piddling sum it'll cost you to order it. I say buy this game whether you're 4 or 40. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best movie-based Video Games..., July 9, 2001
This review is from: The Lion King GEN (Video Game)
Many movie-based games frankly..are horrible. They're churned out by companies looking to make the dead line of the release of the movie, or shortly before. This game, however, features nice character design and movement. Stunning backgrounds, and hours of fun game play. Gotta luv it!

Ok, so it's not five stars if you're talking about older kids, but younger kids will love it. You get to explore the pridelands, jump on a giraffe's head, and ride an ostrich! Fun! And it's not the game that's way too hard, but still promotes a challange. So, NO! this is not a bad game! I still play it sometimes but it is not recomended for older, and more expirienced gamers who don't want to be an animated lion.
