4.0 out of 5 stars The Lion King: Simba and the Lost Waterfall, April 21, 2011
This review is from: The Lion King: Simba and the Lost Waterfall (Hardcover)
ISBN 1570822212 - Printed in Singapore. Age range not stated. Pictorial hardcover, no dustjacket. 14 pages, includes paper toy of Simba and Zazu. Published by Brainwaves Ltd in 1995. No author or illustrator named on the book.

After a long relax in the jungle, Timon suggests a swim in the waterfall. When the friends arrive, they find one problem - there's no water! A walk up stream reveals the cause but the efforts of the trio aren't enough to budge the enormous tree that's blocking the water. Simba recruits Jelani the elephant, whose muscles still aren't quite enough, and Zazu, who comes up with the solution. Using strong vines, all of the friends pull the tree free. All, that is, but Timon, who directs from the dry riverbed. With the block removed, Timon's in the path of the rushing water, but is saved by Simba. The group returns to their original plan, but Timon's had enough water and watched from the side.

This story is simple and easy to read and, best of all, teaches a quick lesson about teamwork. The toy that's included isn't mandatory to the story but the book is still incomplete without it. The illustrations are perfect, capturing everything from the friends' lazy morning to their frustration when they can't move the tree. Vibrant colors and fun little details will keep pre-readers engaged.
