STEPPING INTO HER WORST NIGHTMARE...

Because when she returned, she found an open bedroom window and her three-year-old son, Nathan, gone. The boy would never be seen again.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO NATHAN KINGSLEY?

There's a hole in the case a mile wide, and Patrick is determined to close it. But what he doesn't know is that the closer he moves toward the truth, the more he's putting his life on the line, that he’s become the hunted. Someone's hiding a dark secret and will stop at nothing to keep it that way.

The clock is ticking, the walls are closing, and the stakes are getting higher as he races to find a killer--one who's hot on his trail. One who's out for his blood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Mystery with Great Characterization January 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I downloaded The Lion, The Lamb, The Hunted on my Kindle Fire about a month and got tied up so I couldn't find time to read. Friday night I finally had enough time to pick up a book and as I was browsing through my Kindle list, I saw Andrew Kaufman's book sitting there waiting for me.

I started reading it and couldn't put it down. I read half of it Friday night and the other half Saturday evening. I read Mr. Kaufman's first book While the Savage Sleeps and really liked it, but I found that I ended up liking the new one even more.

The main character, Patrick, is extremely likeable and you find yourself becoming very invested in his story and his experiences. In addition, the mystery is really well done. It is not so convoluted that you find yourself in disbelief, but not so simple that you can figure it all out by page 20 (or even 200).

I recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries, good characterization, or any good literature. It's well written, believable, and fun with great characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story! December 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved Andrew E. Kaufman's book! An excellent, suspenseful story that I found difficult to put down. It is Andrew's second novel, and he has another best-seller for sure with this one. I loved the first-person narrative and it worked so well with his protagonist reporter, Patrick Bannister. Andrew's characterizations, dialogue, suspense, and intrigue will keep you turning the pages of his book to see where he takes you next. An enjoyable, great read. Andrew will again hit the best-seller lists with The Lion, The Lamb, The Hunted, as he did with While the Savage Sleeps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! December 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Incredible! I did not want to put this down at all and got annoyed when I had to. The family dynamic of the protagonist, Patrick, pulled me in right away and the mystery of their dynamic kept that pull strong. The characters were crisp and the dialogue believable. The pacing was amazing and I often found myself surprised by how much I had read without realizing it. I waited on pins and needles for this one to come out after reading While the Savage Sleeps. Mr. Kaufman has quickly become one of my favorite authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Hunter Becomes The Hunted January 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Along with a mysterious note, national news reporter Patrick discovers a necklace with initials on it, found in the belongings of his deceased mother. The note was simply signed "W," and Patrick knew his uncle's handwriting.

These finds bring Patrick from California to a small Texas town, only to uncover more questions than answers, leading him to a retired sheriff, a mental hospital, a train-wreck of a trailer, a deranged dog, and a local reporter.

Interspersed throughout is Patrick's growing up years with his emotionally and verbally abusive mother and the control she tried to wield over him.

The hunter becomes the hunted and Patrick is in for something far different than he could have anticipated.

Much intrigue. No drivel. You'll not want to put this one down.

3.0 out of 5 stars A fine effort January 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
To be honest, I wasn't expecting much, and the book delivered exactly that. It was at least interesting, but the end felt rushed, almost like the author was on deadline and needed to finish. It also fell back on that old trope where the bad guy is about to get away with it all, but before s/he finishes the dirty deed s/he explains how s/he did it all. It was...anti-climactic to say the least. And that disappointed me. A lot.

It was a pretty fast-paced book that didn't require a lot of thought, so in that sense it was a quick, mostly fun read, but don't expect anything spine-tingling or Earth shattering. A solid, below-average thriller with nothing particularly interesting to commend it. If you want something quick, you can't beat the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars It really IS a Psychological thriller April 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
First of all, I think Amazon's "product description" is a little misleading. Yes, the story IS about a missing child, but NOT with the 'urgency' that the bold print and strange spacing implies. The kidnapping happened 30 years ago. It takes place on about 5 pages of the book.

That being said:
I devoured two Andrew Kaufman novels in 4 days. The first was "While The Savage Sleeps", which was good. "The Lion, The Lamb, The Hunted" was better.
This book is far more complex and multilayered than I had expected. You have the basic premise: 'who killed the toddler Nathan 30 years ago?' A reporter (Patrick) aims to find out.
But then Kaufman takes us on a tour of Patrick's troubled childhood, which is every bit as interesting, readable and gut-wrenching as the original storyline. Kaufman moves us back and forth from present day to Patrick's past seamlessly, adding depth to each chapter.
The characters are well developed but not OVER developed. (Kaufman gives his readers some credit) They read easily and are well fleshed out. Patrick is realistic & likable as an adult, and hauntingly touching as a child.

The story of Nathan, the missing child, is enough to keep mystery readers happy. We find sociopaths, mental hospitals, creepy small towns, mysterious cowboys, questionable officials and an array strange behavior...
....but I think I enjoyed the understory of our character's bizarre upbringing just as much.

Kaufman's "The Lion, The Lamb, The Hunted" was suspenseful, disturbing and thoroughly entertaining.
