4.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written and informative, April 12, 1998
This review is from: The Lion in the Moon: Two Against the Sahara (Paperback)
The concept of a "blind date" to cross the Saraha is intriguing and frought with possibilities. That they actually finished the trip still firends enough to marry is amazing. The recounting of the trip kept me very intrested, but I wanted more insights into the interpersonal relationship as it developed. Not "upwardly downwardly" stuff but introspective looks at how they understanding of each other developed.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Armchair Intrepid Travelers, August 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A second subtitle to The Lion in the Moon could have been "Expect the Unexpected", because that is the theme that carries the story along. Here we have an American couple full of "goofy good will" (Vonnegut's phrase) picking their way through landscapes and cultures that range from strange to bewildering. In the process, they broaden their horizons and forge a firm personal relationship. Two points of view (his & hers) run along parallel narrative tracks until they converge on the last page of "her" story.
Anyone interested in the dynamics of cross-cultural communication, or in traveling independently on the African continent should read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars unique and intelligent, July 31, 2011
This review is from: The Lion in the Moon: Two Against the Sahara (Paperback)
The vast Sahara Desert, explored by Babs and Staefan, and uniquely written by each for an intimate and insightful perspective, is a place to lose yourself and to find each other. Recommended!
