Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Anyone who paid any attention to magazine and newspaper ads in the early 1980s probably noticed the seemingly quixotic quest taken with a book called A Remarkable Medicine Has Been Overlooked (1981). Similarly, anyone who watches television must be aware of the Dreyfus Fund and its roaring symbol, the Wall Street lion. Few, however, realize any connection. Jack Dreyfus was once identified by Financial World magazine as one of the "greatest investors of the 20th century" and he founded one of the first major mutual funds. He also suffered from serious depression in 1957 and attributes his recovery to the drug phenytoin, known popularly as Dilantin. An unsuccessful 15-year campaign to win FDA approval and greater acceptance of this drug culminated in A Remarkable Medicine. Here Dreyfus tells his two stories. In the first he boasts matter-of-factly of his personal achievements and financial successes. In the second he dons again his battle armor to detail his frustrations with both the medical and the federal regulatory establishments and to extol the positive effects of Dilantin. Recommended for business, medical, and popular biography collections. David Rouse

5.0 out of 5 stars casual observations take on greater importance, June 10, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Lion of Wall Street: The Two Lives of Jack Dreyfus (Hardcover)
in an affable style, financial wizard-philanthropist Dreyfus' seemingly casual biography takes on a larger perspective, partly because of who he is,(of course), but mostly from his unselfish desire to share an important discovery. THE LION OF WALL STREET and the more recent version of A REMARKABLE MEDICINE HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED are essensially the same book, the paperback REMARKABLE an update of the hardcover LION
