This book is based on the novel by C.S. Lewis and is therefor not the actual text. It is a well written summary of the story, which can be read aloud in one sitting to young children without losing their interest. The book introduces them to the classic tale in a way that is appropriate for them. The text goes very well with the illustrations, which are gorgeous. It is written in a way that keeps the children wanting to turn the pages to see what happens to the characters. While it's true that the message of the story is diluted, it would be easy for an adult familiar with the novel to add little bits of age appropriate explanation here and there so the children get more of the intended message if they wish to do so.

I really like this book, and have used it with my preschool class (children of ages 3 1/5 to 4) and with kindergarteners (ages 5-6). At first I thought it was a little risky because the text is much longer than most picture books we use with the younger ones, and some of the children have really short attention spans. But I also felt the story was good enough and the illustrations interesting enough to keep their attention. I was right. The children listened intently and wanted to know everything about the story. It was beautiful to see how even children as young as 3 were enjoying the tale by C.S. Lewis in a circle time setting at school. I recommend this book to parents and teachers who love Narnia and want to introduce it to young children who are not quite ready to read the original text.

I don't mind the truncation of the story. I don't think Aslan appears weak. But the writing is technically very poor. It is absolute ellipsis *hell*. Check out this unmodified passage from the first/second page (it has a nasty habit of splitting sentences across page turns):

"And of course, right here on this side of the wardrobe, were four children ... Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy ... all of them longing for adventure. Lucy, the youngest, and most longing, was first to push past the furry coats ... [turn page] ... and find herself in a snowy wood, under a streetlamp ... where the Witch's wickedness had made it always winter."

It's just awful reading this to my daughter. I am tempted to make up my own version.

My three year old daughter is captivated by this intriguing and beautifully illustrated rendition of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. This book has sparked her imagination beyond words! She talks about the "white witch" during the day, and the poor Mr. Tumnus turned to stone, and is enchanted by every page of this book. We read it every night, every single word. I do not find the text broken up and difficult to follow. The pauses that occur from one page to another allow discussion of the book and create eager anticipation! It has also sparked conversation about God. I really can't say enough good things and encourage all readers to delight in this fantastic fantasy.

My almost 6 year old really wanted to watch the movie but is prone to night mares so we said no. She was very interested in the story that she heard from friends and wanted to say she knew it too. We found this book and are both thrilled. It's a wonderful retelling of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. It takes less than 10 minutes to read out loud and the illustrations are fantastic, very beautiful. It's very true to the actual story, just shorter and ideal for younger kids. I'd say 4-7 old range. We highly recommend this book for the younger kids interested in Narnia but not yet ready for the longer chapter book or movie.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis is coming out in the movies in December and I can't wait! If you haven't read this to your kids yet, you'll want to do so before it comes to town.

I have been listening to the audio tapes with my granddaughter as we drive around town but I wanted to read her a book version also. Unfortunately, I don't have that much time to read the whole book, so I went to the bookstore and found a picture book version (retold by Hiawyn Oram) that just came out. It's only 40 pages long and is just enough to give her a taste of the real book. Hopefully, I will get to read the real book to her someday. In the meantime, this one is wonderful. The pictures are georgeous! And it tells enough of the story to wet your appetite for more.

If you're like me and just have enough time to read a short version or if you have younger children who are able to sit through the real book yet, I recommend this book. Otherwise, go for the real thing

This is an adapted version of the original for younger kids and it's great! My daughter, who is 4, loved the story because she was able to understand it. The illustrations are beautiful as well.

This book was purchased for my ELD 1-2. It has not been on the shelves.

This beautifully illustrated book was one of the offerings at the gift shop connected with the Children's Theater in Minneapolis. My granddaughter wanted this book, but when the performance was over, the gift shop had closed (strange marketing decision), so I was happy to find it on Amazon.com. This is not the original text, but a retelling suitable for younger children.

Everyone needs to buy the book Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe the first in C.S. Lewis' series The Chronicles of Narnia. The story begins with the introduction of four children named Edmund, Lucy, Susan, and Peter. They have to move to a new house because of the air-raids in London during World War II. While playing hide and seek, Lucy, the youngest of the four, finds a wardrobe that leads her into another world. When she returns no one believes her tale. Then, one day all the children go into the wardrobe and end up on a wonderful adventure. In the journey the children try to save Narnia from the White Witch. Can they do it? Read this book to find out. People who like to read tales of magic and adventure will love this book.
