About the Author

C. S. Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably the most influential Christian writer of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English literature at Oxford University until 1954 when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. His major contributions in literary criticism, children’s literature, fantasy literature, and popular theology brought him international renown and acclaim. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include The Chronicles of Narnia, Out of the Silent Planet, The Four Loves, The Screwtape Letters, and Mere Christianity.

Pauline Baynes illustrations for The Chronicles of Narnia span a remarkable career, beginning with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 1949 and continuing with the hand-coloring of all seven books forty years later.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, April 20, 2010

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (paper-over-board) (Narnia) (Hardcover)
The Lion the, Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis was an exceptional book. Some parts were better than others but the outcome was an OK book. I think the characters were a bit dull. The author didn't really give them any personalities. Aslan, the great Lion, kind of swapped personalities at the end of the story from speaking bold and heroic to giddy and kiddish. Lewis had some nice detailed sentences and good descriptions but the way he presented people or how they acted was not very good to me. The idea of Narnia and all these mystical creatures was rich and good but the way he molded into a story was a way I wouldn't. I would recommend this to anyone who is hungry for an adventure or fantasy story but doesn't want to go through thick Harry Potters and Eragons. ~Katie C. DAIS

5.0 out of 5 stars The Other World, November 14, 2007

This review is from: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (paper-over-board) (Narnia) (Hardcover)
Four kids Lucy, Susan, Peter, and Edmund, go in to another world through a wardrobe. This world is called Narnia. The kids fight the white witch, side by side, with the mighty lion, ASLAN.
My favorite part was when the white witch shaved, chained, and killed Aslan on the stone table. The white witch thought that she had won. Then the stone table broke in half and Aslan... well, I guess you will have to read the book.
I love the book and I love the movie. The book was so good. I don't like many books I read, so I was surprised to find a book I can read over and over again. I totally recommend this book because it through your emotions around, you are happy, sad, you cry, you laugh, and you fall in love with some characters. It is just a great book. People of all ages, should read or listen to this wonderful story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Prevensie Magical Adventure, April 20, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (paper-over-board) (Narnia) (Hardcover)
In the magical land of Narnia, where dreams have sailed into reality, a new adventure was about to take place. What Lucy Pevensie had thought was a wardrobe was much more than any other wardrobe in the world. The wardrobe had been her key into another dimension called Narnia. She managed her way back to her own world in what she thought was a couple of hours, but she later realized that no time had really passed at all in her own world. Lucy had tried telling her sibling Edmund, Susan, and Peter about the world that she had visited. They just thought that she was playing a game, but she had told them that it was not a game, but a real world.
On the day that the four children went hiding from the housekeeper they had discover that Lucy had been telling the truth the whole time. They all had hid in the wardrobe and realized that there was a world in the back of it. When the true king of Narnia, Asland, needs their help, will they be able to take on the magical creatures? Will they have victory over the White Witch and the rest of her army?
The characters in the book are very well described. They came to life before my very eyes. It was as if I became part of the book. C.S. Lewis has also written other books in the series that are amazing as well.
The book is a fantasy that readers will love. Readers that enjoy unusual animal and talking creatures will really find an enjoyment in reading the book.
