For nearly a century, more Lionel(tm) trains were run around the Christmas tree than any other brand of train. Most of those trains were based on "real" railroads like the Pennsylvania RR and New York Central. But the fact is that most people today only think of toy or model trains at Christmas. And Lionel has made a series of trains that are especially fun at that time of year. This train uses the Lionel 4-4-2 Atlantic-style locomotive (so called because this kind of locomotive proved especially useful in taking high-speed passenger trains up and down the Atlantic seaboard). The same Lionel locomotive, in "real" railroad names pulls several other trains (most of which have "Flyer" in their name, if you want to check them out). In such applications it has lived up to the Lionel standard of quality and reliability. What makes this train set exceptional are the colorful Disney(tm) characters and the festive "paint jobs" on the cars. These make this train a "must" for Disney collectors. The included track is easier to use and much more attractive than the traditional track I grew up with. A wide range of turnouts, crossovers, and other pieces are also available. However this train will run on just about ANY Lionel O gauge track, and vice versa, so if you've already started a Lionel collection, don't be afraid of adding this one to your treasures.

This train is the same size and quality of the trains your grandfather grew up with. The Atlantic locomotive that pulls it is the one Lionel uses for many of its "non-Christmas" trains. It is very heavy and very solid. The rest of the train is a little lighter-weight, to be sure, but adheres to Lionel's standards of quality and durability. And it is totally interchangeable with any of Lionel's other O gauge or O-27 trains, such as the Lionel Polar Express train or individual Lionel O gauge Christmas cars. You can always get service, additional track, and accessories.

I've uploaded two photographs since one wasn't provided. You'll see that, if you're thinking about a train, and you're a big fan of Mickey Mouse, this is a choice that will bring not, just hours, but generations, of fun.
